Using my miles for family member

Hi everyone -

I have a lot of AMEX points and I would like to use them for a ticket for my sister out of Canada.

I've been able to book tickets for others using my own miles directly online via AA, EK, DL.

I wanted to see if that is possible on AF or KL before I transfer a bunch of miles to FB.

Thanks!

Welcome, PromoAward scavenger!

This question has been answered and debated many times. Please do a search.

Before you waste your Amex MR points, be aware of the following
1) You can never undo the transaction, and FB miles cannot be transferred out to any other programme.
2) The "promo awards" are now about as expensive as a regular award used to be up until June.
3) There may not be any availability on your chosen dates. You have to be completely flexible.
4) The taxes and charges (Yes, you will have to pay cold hard cash as well) are probably far, far bigger than you realise.

I would advise you to come up with a better, more straightforward solution using another programme with which you are familiar.

Thanks for the links and the tips.

You are right indeed that you need to be very certain of availability etc before transferring AMEX MR points... Given what I'm seeing out there for the dates I need, paying for the ticket in cash outright might be the best deal (and my MR points just keep accumulating).

For the record... I always do a search first, but my experience with the search function on FT (and forums built on similar IT) has been poor in terms of results unless. I often end up searching google to head back into FT... But I digress.

That is precisely how one should search FT.
