AF cancels flights operated by A318-319-320-321

I guess this will have a significant impact on short and medium-haul operations:
"Air France has received a communication from Airbus requesting airlines to carry out a software update on certain aircraft in the Airbus A320 family (A318, A319, A320, A321).
Air France strictly complies with the instructions of the authorities and the manufacturer and is forced to adapt its flight schedule operated by this type of aircraft."
(Source: AF website, 28 November 2025)

Background story: "Airbus said on Friday it was ordering immediate repairs to 6,000 of its widely-used A320 family of jets in a sweeping recall affecting more than half the global fleet" (Reuters)

Visible impact today: for example, all AF flights from TLS and NCE after 7pm were cancelled or heavily delayed.

I understand a software downgrade is needed to the flight controls that takes 2 hours to download.

Hopefully this can be done overnight in most cases ?

I doubt it's going to be so fast. And for the older A32X models, it seems it's more complicated (it's not just a download).

Looking at the CDG departure board, disruptions seem to be minimal. Air France and other operators have handled this well.

and there were similar flights this morning to TLS and MAD by B77W. A lot of stranded pax.

Most of the AF A32x fleet seems indeed to be operating normally today, with the exception of the A320 F-HEPx series. Good job

I would have been more that happy to be forced to stay one day longer in Barcelona aux frais de la princesse , but "unfortunately" everything went smooth

Big kudos to the AF (and Airbus?) teams for the very efficient handling of the situation!

Maybe AF should hire Airbus IT guy and put him in charge of the Air France app!

Yeah, when you consider the A320 family is the best selling appareil worldwide, a long downtime would be catastrophic for commercial aviation.

But it's good that for most appareils, it takes just a few hours. Apparently LH did not have cancellations today related to the software update.

The situation appears to be more difficult in the Caribbean regional network, where AF has two A320 aircrafts based in PTP. All flights have been cancelled so far.
