Wasn't the rule of "voluntary quarantaine" limited until July 14th? I remember that in April (or was it May?) the government's original plan was to extend the extraordinary legislation until July 28th, imposing a quarantaine for everybody coming in from outside the EU. Parliament then limited that to July 14th, and the quarantaine was made "voluntary".

I took a ferry from the UK before the UK rescinded the quarantine for France (and therefore while there was still theoretically, in retaliation, a voluntary quarantine on arrivals from the UK) but the immigration officer did not even mention it at all when going through the border, The only covid-related requirement (other than wearing masks on the ferry) was having the no-covid symptoms declaration available when checking in for the ferry.The ferry company did insist that these had to be filled.
