NOTE ON GETTING OLCI OFFER ON OAL ORIGINATING:
If the AF LP flight segment is down line from your originating segment operated by another airline which forces you to use the OAL’s checkin system, you can manually use the AF website to check-in for the downline AF flight and still get the offer. For example, GRU-MEX-CDG sold as AM14 / AM 6103 (operated as AF179), you can checkin via AM as usual. Before or after, go to the AF website for the currency you want to pay for the upgrade in. Check-in using just your PNR / Lastname and the AF flight number you want to check-in for. It will allow a mid-trip check-in and will offer the LP upgrade if eligible.

Once onboard, service was great. And the food was exceptional. Unfortunately, we had a 2 hour tech delay leaving CDG. This meant I had to drink far too much champagne

If comparing to Emirates F, then the ground operations and onboard food were far better on LP. I prefer the EK F lounge and the A380 (plus direct flight from MAN). The in-air service and booze were comparable (I’m not a wine “expert”, so I expect others may not agree).

Price wise, LP costs the about the same as EK J these days (both around £3k on a MAN-DXB).

That’s a shame about the lounge and definitely not typical either on the service or food front.
In terms of wine on board, EK is normally ahead of AF and these days way ahead (wine selection on LP recently has been unimpressive).

Amazing how LP costs as much as EK J nonstop on your route. Unfortunately, there are no deals to be had from the US.

To answer my own question - it turns out the answer is oui. A few people in this thread have reported issues but I called the AF LP number and they quickly booked it.

CDG-DXB - £804.60

My MAN-CDG-DXB was £862

I think I got most of that back in the Champagne

The lack of attentiveness by the F&B staff at the Premiere lounge is a real issue. I have encountered this issue several times now with us wanting coffees or to order food and having to hunt down a member of the F&B staff. I am pretty sure they are a bit understaffed, and AF really needs to hire more staff and also train them to be visible and to regularly check on all passengers. Even just walking by to see if a glass is empty or if a passenger might want anything would be appreciated.

I’m flying AF back to the US tomorrow but crediting the miles back to DL. The ticket is issued on AF stock. If one accepts the upgrade offer during online check-in to LP - does the ticket get reissued and your earn miles based on F or will I only earn the J miles of the original ticket?

Ticket and DL earnings stay in J in my experience. You could try and submit an F boarding pass but seems unlikely.

The latter, based on my experience.

Thank you both. I’ll spend that $1,800 elsewhere.

What was your routing? And what do you think would’ve been a more reasonable price for the upgrade?

CDG-IAH. It’s not about the money. But I’m not going to spend $1,800 more dollars to only earn J miles from my original ticket. Now had it reticketed and earned at F rates that’s worth it to me.

If offered, expect it to be at least $2K.

I just did CDG-IAH and the OLCI to LP was $1,800. CDG-MIA is shorter so I don’t see why it’d be $2k+.
