YVR Lounges Refresh Program

"Good News!

With the coming of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Air Canada is undertaking the refurbishment of all three (3) of its lounges in Vancouver Airport. With this effort Lounge Guests may notice a reduction in seating while this work is underway.

We apologies (sic) for the inconvenience and look forward to serving you in our updated facilities."

Not a moment too soon!!

About the only worthwhile spin-off from the Olympics. Hope AC got some federal stimulus funding to undertake with this!

This is great news. I'm in the YVR domestic lounge right now. There is a giant crack going the entire way through the granite counter that overlooks the tarmac. I was afraid the entire thing would collapse under the weight of my netbook.

If anything needs freshening up in there it's the bathrooms. I have no idea what on earth people are eating before they go in there, but the place smells like an open latrine, dug by sweaty people covered in garlic butter...

I just paid a visit to the Men's. You weren't kidding about the smell. I also couldn't help but notice that one of the urinals is taped off like a crime scene from CSI.

Was taped off yesterday as well. My wife used both the washroom in the lounge, and the washroom in the concourse by gate C39 and her comment to me was... these washrooms are a lot nicer and CLEANER than the lounge washrooms.

Can't come a moment too soon!

Wish they would do something about the worn out chair upholstry at the MLL in YEG. Looks really tatty and has for more than a year, at least the last time I was thru.

Excellent news. In YVR I have taken to waiting at the gate- far quieter, more space, much cleaner- now granted, part of this is because the gate areas of YVR are really nice- but the lounges (in particular International and Domestic) are very nasty and always ridiculously overcrowded.

It has been taped off for months.

This is LONG overdue - the chairs are ripped, the counter is cracked and they really waste a lot of space in there. Given the *G visitors we'll be having here - hopefully they make this an especially nice lounge.

OT: The YEG lounge is undersized as well... I found out the other day that their official capacity is 187 people... Can you imagine that many people in there?

That would be fire capacity- I can't imagine their liquour licence capacity is more than 50% of that.

The work is underway. The west half of the lounge is now a construction zone. The lounge is only half its former self, though they have added a few chairs in the vestibule next to the elevator.

The suspense is killing me.
