Routes that do not have fuel surcharges (YQ) when operated by carriers that normally charge YQ:
1. USA-Germany-Other country. If only the Germany-other country segment is on LH it does not have YQ. E.g. DFW-FRA-BLR with TATL on UA and FRA-BLR on LH.
2. USA-Canada-Other country. The USA-Canada segment on AC does not have YQ if the Canada-Other country segment is operated by a carrier that does not charge YQ. E.g. DFW-YYZ-ADD.

Looks like a fun trip--three great cities, and all very different from each other.

Booked a business class award ticket. I was pleased that it was so simple to do on my own, at Aeroplan website:
YYZ-TPE (BR-J)
TPE-SIN (SQ-J)
SIN-PER (SQ-J) destination/turnaround
PER-SIN (SQ-J) stopover
SIN-TPE (SQ-J)
TPE-YYZ (BR-J)
160,000 Miles + $93.46 taxes. As this was booked online, there was no $30+tax phone-in agent assistance charge.

PER-SIN (SQ-J) stopover

...and sorry, I had a typo. It will be a stopover in SIN on the return, not a layover. I've fixed my original post.

One time, for me anyways. This was back in 2013? Maybe earlier. But it was more of a system interruption failure at the time, so the rep got a manager on the line to waive the fees. But I've never been successful since that time, and I don't even bother to ask any more.

For a client:
YVR-YUL-ORD-KRK AC/LO J
KRK-MUC-YYZ (stop) LH J
YYZ-YVR AC J
115,000 and a whopping $690 in scamcharges.
Weird, because booking two one ways would have been $190+$310, but they wanted the stopover in YYZ,

Though I did make my recent booking nearly 11 months out, I have found TPE-YYZ in J at 5 months out for Fall travel.
Also, while waiting for J seats to open up (for free upgrade of a Y seat, on a mixed-cabin award booking), I found that BR released a J seat at T-7.

That's $180 extra, for changing YYZ from a layover to a stopover? Any idea what accounts for that extra charge? Or is it AC flexing their unmitigated thieving muscles?

So for simplicity,
YQ on YVR-Europe-YVR is $600 each way = $1200.
But on one ways it would be $600 (ex-canada) + $300 (ex-europe) return
But if booked as a roundtrip, the return leg is $600.

They are charging identical YQ that is due ex-Canada on the ex-Europe leg if the origin is Canada. Another scam accounting by AC.
