But let me ask you, would you rather pay 467,000 points and fees of CAD $558.35 for a last minute J ticket on YVR-SYD, or 270,000 points (220,000 if booked by December 31) and fees of USD $110.30 + USD $100 for short notice ticketing - about CAD $247 all in?
I could be wrong, but I'm guessing that you'd choose the UA option, every time.

Instead I would be spending 100k for a J or 120K for a F ticket and <$150 CAD to fly on someone else.

Am I to understand that this is a fare that travel agents, for example, can use, but is unavailable to the general public?
It certainly appears that way given the "Travel Industry" notation, and the fact that I can't find a published UA "G" fare on any of several booking engines and other services that I subscribe to.
So if you're using an essentially unbookable, unpublished fare that the general public cannot use, then I think it's fair to call that a "cheat."
On the other hand, if you can show me how to book one...

Being in YWG I would beg to differ - you still have the best MLL in the system and that alone is worth the price of admission (many a day (and night) sitting by the fireplace in the MLL with a glass (or three) of wine).

KEN UA isnt great and telling changes in Advance? We just got 1K and now with a few months to go they change the program for next year. ???
Two programs two airlines...... different. with both + and - UA program SUCKS IMHO unless you get 1k.

Gut the program one benefit at a time, and you slowly gut the program.

In any case, you would not have been spending 100K or even 120K, because the date I chose (Nov 6, if I recall correctly) was intentionally chosen because there was no *A availability on the route and dates I selected.
I got one earlier [a "g" fare] this year from my travel agent and I have no affiliation with the travel industry.

If it's for "competitive reasons" than one can reasonably surmise that things will get worse instead of better, and that AC/AP are delaying the bad news as long as possible.
If the news is good (i.e. improvements in the program) then the competitive advantage would be to get the news out as soon as possible.
Finally, if the details aren't yet completely decided, then there's still time to "change the plans" and add in a few more cutbacks.

And my preditions for year to year cutbacks have been correct for 9 years running now.

Just not the specifics. To wit:

With the reduced number of upgrade certificates issued at the beginning of next year, combined with the more stingent requirements to use them, will fewer J/I seats actually matter?
