One would hope people in the aviation business would not believe/depend upon luck or for that matter upon any god either.

what's with all of the air canada incidents lately?
  • crazy pilot going to LHR
  • turbulence from victoria to toronto
  • tire blow out
  • 777 skidding off the runway
Might as well add the YYZ-YQT flight I was on yesterday. Apparently a problem with the flaps led to a go-around. After a bit of circling, the pilot let us know there was a "technical difficulty" which they'd resolved, but that we'd be landing at a higher speed than normal and experiencing aggressive braking.

Despite that, the landing was excellent, and not as rough as some "normal" landings I've been through.

Sounds more like there was a technical difficulty which they had *not* resolved.

So that they would have to land at higher speed.

CRJ by any chance?

Apparently flap deploy/retract problems are fairly common.

So many of the occurences mentioned on FT are non-events in the big scheme of things.

An aircraft skidding, if that really happened, off the taxiway and getting nose gear stuck, is embarrasing for the PIC. Assuming he did skid, the nosegear may have hit a patch of ice while taking the exit, a bit of understeer maybe?

If the skid was high speed with a sudden stop or the plane got sideways, it would be a little more alarming.

Crazy Pilot - Well that does not happen often
Turbulence - Big deal happens at times to ANY airline
Tire blow out - Big deal happen at times to ANY airline
777 "skidding" off the runway, I wouldn't say skidding, I would say "driven" off the runway POSSIBLY by pilot error, or maybe to avoid running over a bird

QF down here is copping a beat up too with every little incident getting reported lately

Ha, all very funny.
I was on Ac 034 Sydney to Van this morning. (first class) Beautiful landing. Just stopped entering taxiway ? (don't have charts with me) Pilot came on reporting a nose wheel steering problem! Nose wheel was about 4 ft off asphalt. can't wait to see the CADORS !!

Had the exact same problem in Nov'06 on YUL-YYC in an E90 with the exception that they advised us that this was an emergency landing and that we would be met by emergency services on the ground as the possibility of the breaks over heating could lead to an evacuation

It's their own fault for going shopping instead of resting.

Welcome to FT. Nice to read a first hand account instead of misinformation spread by lazy sensationalist journalists.

Which aircraft type are you an ownerpilot of?

Were the pilots tested for DUI?
Or was it just Runway Rage?
