I didn't think it too much to ask OP to provide facts to support their claim, which as Q has ably shown is not the case. Yes, Jazz has some planes around 20 years old but the average for all the 200's & 300's is quite a bit lower and to lay down the generalization that all Jazz DH8's are ancient would be incorrect as has been shown.

How did AC Jazz get hold of DHC-8's that were built over 25 years ago, when the 1st flight of a (any) DHC-8 was 20 june 1983. And what exactly did you want them to replace them with? ATRs ?
The DHC-8 remains the #1 regional turboprop in the world, and is (by a factor of nearly 2:1) by far the safest in terms of number in service vs fatal accidents.

I second that. For the past three years I believe I have taken the Dash-8 between YXU and YYZ between 150 and 180 times and it never went mechanical. One flight was delayed by at least 20 minutes while mechanics were fighting to get the baggage door closed, so I am not surprised to read about other such instances.
Nonetheless, I agree with the OP. The current fleet of Dash-8 is no longer matching passengers expectations. I believe I already mentionned the same about the CRJ (except the 705 of course).

But of course.
Or a mix of Q200 Q300 and Q400. It is a no-brainer.

Based on circumstantial evidence, I believe that Jazz has already made the decision to renew the fleet soon instead of an XM program on the Dash-8. It makes sense because what modern turboprops have achieved with the Q series are much quieter cabins and even better economics. And you can't do much with XM as far as that is concerned. I expect some news on that front in the coming months.

Several Dash 8s have been re-furbished with new seat coverings, I take this to mean that AC Jazz will be keeping them for some time to come.
Touch a lot of wood, I have experienced very few delays to due to MX issues on the Dash 8s. Their is either something about YSB that causes all these problems, or something about YSB based flyers that cause them to whine about Dash 8s

There's something in the water up here...or maybe it's the air?
