Until UA went to e-certs, this practice was common.

Many times they wouldn't collect the cert. Many times they asked for another cert (at connection point). Since changing to e-certs, it makes for a more transparent system.

They take it electronically. And if they ask for too many, you can call Mileage Plus and get them to re-deposit the extra one.

Don't blame the people. Blame the system.

Had this happen twice to me, although both times I was on the connecting flight and had already given up the cert on the originating flight. Both times, I had already explained the situation when showing my BP.

Second time, the GA was exceedingly rude.
