OT: Interesting article on YWG

Located mid-continent, this city has a rich history as a transportation hub. Barry Rempel, president and CEO of the Winnipeg Airports Authority Inc., which oversees operations of Winnipeg International Airport, says officials plan to continue that tradition. The airport recently embarked on a redevelopment program which includes a brand new terminal building and parking structure, while furthering the authoritys vision of creating an integrated transportation facility that will bring all forms of transportation to the airport for the benefit of the community and the province.

Of particular note in the attached story is that both domestic and transborder passengers will clear the same security checkpoint, allowing all passengers to have access to shops and services and the MLL. Transborder passengers would then clear US customs afterwards.

I think the airport authority can keep dreaming -- it will not be a question of whether TC likes his preclearance idea, it'll boil down to whether the Americans will buy into it.

Does CATSA treat transborder passengers differently?
[QUOTE=YOWkid]
I don't see why it would be an issue, in fact it puts preclearance deeper into the airport, which they would probably like.

Does CATSA treat transborder pax differently?
I have found a more thorough going over especially with carry on luggage.
In all the times that I have been precleared for either ORD or DEN my carry luggage has been opened and searched.
It it very rare that my carry-on is searched for a domestic flight.....swabbed yes but not opened and searched.

I have to hand it to the YWG spin doctors. One of the "artist impressions" looking from inside the terminal to the planes at the gates has a picture of a BA 747 parked at one of them.
It makes me laugh everytime. I give them full marks for the interpretation/serving sugestion though.

haha even YWG is gonna have a much nicer and user friendly airport than YUL
YUL has the worse airport on the planet , even GHANA gonna surpass YUL if is hasn't already, with all the money going into Montreal, i wonder if they were used for the outgames instead or perhaps pay off the big owe.

If you're so ashamed of YUL, why don't you move to Ghana?

I can see a concept like this working if everyone would travel with carry-ons only, but otherwise I'm not so sure.
