Are You Called By Name??
About a year ago I was impressed by the fact that GA's addressed me by name as they took my BP - accompanied by a welcoming smile.
This practice (at least in my case) seems to have disappeared lately and I wonder why. I haven't changing my dress code nor my own smile at the GA and wonder if this is just one more courtesty to SE's that is biting the dust. The airports I use most are YVR, YYZ, YUL, LAX, SEA, BWI and MCO. |
I had mixed results, as E. Sometime I'm greeted by my name, and some other time, just a quick "good morning" sir. I don't think it's related to a corporate policy, it's just plain good vs excellent attitude from the AC staff...

Not lately, only once was I ever called by name on AC by a wonderful IC on the way to LHR. When I flew CX I remember the stewardess calling me by name each time she served me. That was indeed a nice touch and the J cabin was full to capacity.

Sadly ... very rarely! I too think it's a nice touch but feel it is only done by cabin crew who are bothered ... regardless of the airline. I think this should be a standard in J/F on all airlines!
|
I have been welcomed by name when I was P earlier this year, both by GA and as I boarded the plane about 2/5 times.... now as an E and while I have not flown much since reaching E, I am 1/2 thus far.

I often get acknowledged by name - probably half the time.
This is likely to do with my very french surname. Almost every flight I take is to or from Toronto, and I always get the french speaking attendant coming by and recognizing me by name if french. It even happened last week on YVR-LAX. I appreciate it when the in-charge takes the time to go through the J cabin, and sometimes the Y cabin, and acknowledge the SEs and other VIPs by name. Ususally they'll do it on longer flights when they've coming by to confirm the meals - it's ususally the more senior in-charges who do this, and they may be recalling a time when chivalry mattered. |
I have been addressed by name a few times but not often by GA's, but have never been addressed by name flying in J by a FA.
I don't think it's a big deal on the GA's part, they are always extremely busy. But I think it should be standard by the FA's for anyone flying in J. Again, some people here say they here it, and some don't. |
Mostly just "welcome back sir" when they see SE on the BP.

Almost always, along with instructions to get to my seat and "watch your head" :)

In YWG, there are about four check-in agents who now know me by name. That is the advantage of a medium size airport.
