Oh my gosh. I got off a plane the other day, and there was this blue-coat Concierge -- BLUE! My shock -- o'm'god -- BLUE! -- (that's like Platinum Black. Concierge Plus, sor of). It's what she said. "Welcome, InTheAirGuy, to Terminal 1. And thank you for post 669" O'm'God! InTheAirGuy! How did she know my name? Why was she there? CIA? Karl Rove? She did'nt' say my name. She said INTHEAIRGUY. I was in shock. I still am. If you have ever posted your flight details on any given day on FT you can assume that the Concierges have recorded your screen name in the cheat sheet they keep on you. They're just watching out for us....and finding ways to impress you. |
I'm about 50% in being called by name.
I was on 217 from YYC to YVR on Monday, flying on a reward ticket in Y, and the in-charge FA who was doing the drink service greeted me by name and offered to bring me a drink or some wine from J class. It was a nice touch. ^ |
So your SE status showed up on a reward ticket?

Actually, it doesn't.
That's the one failing in their systems - when on reward tickets, status never shows up anywhere - in reservation, manifest, B/P. etc. |

When traveling with a SE who was using a reward ticket in Y, she was paged at the gate and offered an opup on a massively oversold flight. Upon learning that the SE member was traveling with someone else the gate agent also upgraded me. When thanked, the gate agent said "Membership has its privileges." While I recognize that this is a highly unusual event and the circumstance that day (late July when many flights where being canceled due to the monthly pilot hours problem), they clearly had a way to identify that my flying companion was SE even though they were on a reward ticket. |
OK, but as far as the IC's are concerned, they as much as any other FA's, have abandoned recognizing the SE in the back of the plane.
They tried very hard a year ago so, to me, this is one courtesy that has definitely slipped off the map. And never mind the Mister Cam - it's simply the recognition that is important. Just the words "Welcome back - I hope you enjoy the flight" would do the trick as far as I'm concerned, name or no name. |
Pet Peeve
I don't mind if nobody gets called by their name, and if everybody gets called by their name I'm happy... however:
my pet peeve is when they come around, looking at their list and calling people by their name; then they get to me, and I have to confess I have a very long name, and they call me 'sir'. For one thing, the name ain't that bad if you use french pronunciation, and secondly, just try it, and I'll gladly help you pronounce it. But ignore me, and it makes me feel left out! :( The savvy ones try their best, and I always tell them they did great and crack a joke about it. |
