As a poor and less-relevant substitute, I'bve been tuning in to National Public Radio a.k.a. NPR online.
|
NOPE! Nor would I miss my tax dollars being freed from the CBC subsidy.
|
CBC is important and I definitely miss it. I am totally out of the loop on news these days as CTV is just a poor substitute.
|
With the exception of City TV, CBC is the only Canadian TV news source for me here in Jamaica. So yes I am missing the CBC.

With double episodes of CORONATION STREET, no nattering nabobs on the football telecasts [and soon hockey], lots of docs on NEWSWORLD, and curiously local BBC radio shows on CBC Radio One, I can get through a few months without the full service. Here in Toronto we can receive an AM NPR affiliate from Buffalo too, so it is not a total media wasteland. It is just too bad CBC Television is not a true Public Service Broadcaster and lives in a hybrid world of commercial entertainment programs that appeal to few Canadians, and leftist bull**** current affairs. It is hard to defend public tax dollars to support its withering service. Radio still binds enough of us across the country, but renewal threatens to scare away most of its loyal listeners. However, I must say it has been fun watching old buddies long elevated into senior management ranks, reading the news on NEWSWORLD.

The only thing I miss is the news (especially Canada at 6:00) on CBC Radio. there is nothing else that can match it for my commute home.
As for the rest of Radio programming, I actualyl like it better now (apart from the interruption every 15 minutes to remind us of the "labour dispute). I'm hearing lots of great music and am being spared from the usual sob stories and save the world topics that make up a lot of the dreck that is usually on offer. CBC Television is no different from their commercial competitors and should be privatized. PS: Shareholder, where is NPR on the AM dial. when I lived in the U.S., I enjoyed listening to it but never found it when I moved back home. |
Only missing it just a tiny bit. The only program I enjoyed was As It Happens, couldn't give a toss about the rest of the drivel.
The question is now that the Mother Corp is no longer beaming the Liberal agenda wall to wall into 905 how will the GTA get its daily dose of left wing propaganda? Oops, forgot..the Toronto Star is still publishing. There you go. My biases declared up front.... ;) cheers, MWAC |
The bigger question would be "Are you missing your TV?" To which the answer would be, "not really."

"YOW" is right!
Actually I have another friend without cable, he gets by on four or five stations, whatever it is, and gets his news online. =aw |
Not at all. I switched to DirecTV years ago and added TiVo last year. ^ No Canadian cable for me :D Not that I'm home to watch it that often, but I do use the TiVo and then burn to DVD for viewing on the road. :)

I'm still in HK currently and fortunately the news I watch here are TVB, Asia TV, etc and none CBC. :D But I'll see how things will impact me when I come back to YVR friday. I've always relied on CBC whenever I'm on Canadian soil even though I've got satelite.
