I am not kidding.I had the opportunity to have an upgrade on Thanksgiving day from YVR/YYZ on the A330.I sat beside an AC A320 pilot on his way to work.In our discussions we talked about range of aircraft and how he preferred the A319 with the extra thrust for takeoff over the A320.He mentioned that AC flies a 319 between New York Kennedy and Vancouver(over 5 hours)
i have also flown to Grenada from Toronto on an AC A319.Last winter AC scheduled a flight in the PM from YYZ/BGI on a A319 (approx 5 hours)
It is doable and I am commenting on my personal experiences as well as discussions with an AC pilot who I believe is credible.

I'm not doubting it's doable. I just wouldn't want to be on a 319 for 5 hours. I avoid single aisle a/c on almost all of my YVR - YUL flights, and there is usually only 1 of 4 flights daily that is a widebody.

Hmmm, what is the advantage of a ratty old 762 in Y or J vs. a new or newish A319 or A320? Frankly I prefer the latter options in either class of service.

5 hours in a 319 or 5 hours in a widebody in Y class...not much difference to me.

well I prefer the widebodies, because you have a higher chance of getting a bulkhead or exit row. Plus you can prebook a bulkhead row with no status (row 19 or 20) on the 767. Obviously this is a personal preference, but with the 763 there are 18 "good seats". The 320 also has this, but it feels more like a cattle car, the 767 definately feels much more open.
