Operational Upgrades
This is a question for AC experts and Empress..
When we view loads (AIR CANADA), J9 C9 and a later J8 C7. Does this reduction in C in any way reflect the fact that the airline knows that it has some confirmed E's and SE's and P's booked in economy and thus a possibility of op ups and in turn selling those seats as Y B M and H fares.

well if it went from J9 C9 to J8 C7, it could have just been 2 people got upgraded to J from Y, thus the reduction to C7. remember 9 is the highest number you will see in any fare bucket inventory. So if it says J9, there is most likely more than 9 available J seats.

I think the best way to figure out whether there will be an op-ug or not is actually through the normal economy buckets. Obviously, if it says Y1, expect the ug.
shore9: C is not only used for ugs, but also used for RTW tix and of course, you can buy C tix as well...

The availability of C class does not reflect the fact that the airline knows that it has some E's and SE's and P's booked in economy.
C class availability is driven by the forecasted amount of seats AC believes it can sell in J class.

My flt this AM showed J2 CO Y9 and 9's down to L late last night but I received an op up as the back was completely full and so was J;my seatmate,a prestige member, thinks he was just randomly picked for the U/G because he was travelling on a fun fare and did not ask for one.Go figure.

On domestic and transborder flights, the availability display is extremely misleading. AC will often shift J capacity into Y to sell more seats because the chances of a domestic or transborder flight selling out in J is extremely small. So even if you see economy booking classes showing as 9s, that doesn't mean the flight is not oversold. On the other hand, if you see things such as J5C0 on an international flight, chances are that there really are only 5 J left. Yield management does not care how many status members are booked in Y (i.e. they do not hold seats back just to make sure status pax will get their upgrades).

They couldn't have 2 SE's beside each other, one being parnel.
That prestige member was sure to get an earful from you.

Nope he paid the same fare as I did.....so good for him to get the U/G at least he flies AC when he does fly and he has a shot at E this year. I'm all for people flying AC and getting status....more security for my aeroplan miles

Then there's me, the lowly high fare certless or "on a short flight" SE sitting in Y on your flight because the GA was lazy and op-up'd some low fare Basic.
However, good for the P... if it motivates him in anyway to become top tier, then yes I agree with Parnel. At least he wasn't a B.

There were 17 out of 36 unassigned J seats one hour before flt time.

I am heading to TO this Thursday night and my flights currently looks like this:
Cabin class: J0 C0 Y0 M0 U0 A0 B0 V0 Q0 L0 R0 I0 N0 G0
Meal: Yes
Distance: 1676 mi
Stops: non-stop
Flight Time: 3:46
Airbus A320
Does anyone have any insight as to what I could expect for seating since I didn't pay the $10 for 33E?
I have been doing web check-in for the past few weeks to grab my preferred window but last night was the first time in years I have sat in row 25 or higher.
