OT:extra service approved YQM-CDG for Acadians 400th celebrations
OTTAWA, May 6 /CNW/ - The Canadian Transportation Agency today approved
an application by Corsair, based in France, to provide direct once-weekly
service this summer between Moncton and Paris in anticipation of visitors
attracted to celebrations in Moncton of the 400th Anniversary of the landing
of the first Acadians in Canada.
The flights will constitute stop-overs on Corsair's existing Paris-
Montral flights and will run from June 30 until September 2, 2004.
The application, for which the Agency sought industry views, was
supported by the Greater Moncton Airports Authority, conditionally supported
by Air Transat which is also seeking additional service rights from the
Government of France, and opposed by Air Canada. The Government of New
Brunswick encouraged once-weekly service between Paris and Moncton to support
the festivities.
In considering the Corsair application, the Agency noted that, according
to Air Canada, "Corsair's proposed extra-bilateral operations to Moncton will
adversely impact Air Canada by diverting network traffic from its scheduled
service", which uses larger hub cities.
The Agency's view was that the proposed service by Corsair was "directly
related to the special 400th Anniversary celebrations and is, therefore,
incremental traffic that otherwise would not be travelling between France and
Canada". The Agency recognized the proposed Corsair service would be more
convenient to passengers from Paris destined for Moncton.
The Canadian Transportation Agency is an independent quasi-judicial
tribunal that regulates various modes of transportation under Government of
Canada jurisdiction, including air, marine and rail. The Agency's mission is
to administer legislation and Government of Canada policies to help achieve an
efficient and accessible transportation network within Canada.

Oh great, there go the hotel room rates through the roof.
Heck the brand new Super 8 in Moncton costs $94 right now, can't wait for summer Don't even get me started in the old and dumpy Comfort Inn's that are the same price too. Better start to book some tentative hotel dates for summer work to try and keep them somewhat reasonable.
All that said, great for Moncton if they can score some more tourism $$$

VIA is showing off their new equipment and had a great afternoon of New Brunswick Acadien music in the departure hall of Union Station in Toronto yesterday. All the tourist bureaux from the province had booths too. Really friends souls from NB. So I guess 100Kmiler isn't the only one.
...Just posted the foregoing on a terminal at the T2YYZ MLL. This is actually Shareholder, but this PC has already been logged in and cookie'd to another FTer! Hmmm, imagine what I could post... BTW, virtually no lineups this evening, even had time to browse the Duty Free shop and pick up a bottle of Icewine for Ozstamps and Joh...
