In the YVR Cafe and watching so many folks enjoying the bounty of food & refreshments available. The one lady beside me, i believe she brought an empty carry on, just to fill with food and drink. High grocery and restaurant food prices so this perhaps is a way to cut costs. I especially watch in amazement how families can coordinate themselves including young children in swarming the shelves and packing a large amount of cookies, muffins, juice and food.
I am clearly doing this wrong. I think next week, I will bring a expandable carry on and fill it so i can skip groceries for the week lol.
If I wanted another degree my dissertation would be on the cafe and how people behave.

Funny you say that as I was looking for patterns and most do not show tags (yes I know) or gold tag.
Some are skillful with their packing methods, others struggle. Some seem to be experts as they take the contents of four containers and fit these contents i to one. Over time these guests have developed skills in gathering, packing and storing!

While I fully agree with you, I would also fully expect the staff would do exactly nothing. They seem to have limited interest in their jobs to begin with and likely have no desire to get confrontational with the patrons over something that has zero impact on them. I rarely (if ever) have seen active supervision or management in a MLL or a Cafe. It's not like there seems to be anyone in a position of authority checking the quality of what's on offer, asking patrons how their experience has been, or even observing the staff, pretty sad actually.

The food isn't even that good. Like sure, that breakfast sandwich might be better than you'd get on the plane, especially in Y. But ... it's still free airport food.
The only time I've "misbehaved" was at the YYZ Cafe during the catering strike, before a flight to YVR. I behaved as if there was going to be no J catering on the flight (as my SFO-YYZ coming up had water and a cold sandwich).
So I definitely stocked enough Coke Zero and cold food to sustain me for 5 hours. And then it turned out the flight was fully catered, so I ended up throwing all the food away.

You know those small brown paper bag they have? I think that is the (implied, civilized)cap per person. Fill as much as you can into that small bag and that should be it.
Anything beyond i would probably give you the "stare".
And yes... before people say technically it is covered under T&C.... if everyone behave this way how long do you think they will start perform checks?

When I know I pass thru United club fly grab n go at IAH (they have freshly squeezed oj), I bring a small paper bag, because Ive never seen staff giving bags proactively, and I dont see many people putting food into their bags. But a full size empty carry on?? Theres always bigger fish.
If she had a whole family in tow, and she was gathering food for them, then the amount could end up being reasonable per person basis, but if I were her, I'd be too embarrassed to do that, and I'd let all of my family members to pack their own small paper bags.
Maybe they should post yet another sign, and a carry out sizer, similar to bag sizers at gates?🤭

And preparing for IRROPS is never a bad thing.

Twice in one week Ive entered an aircraft lav to find the previous user did not flush. And no, nothing was wrong with the button.
Im amazed at the ways my fellow passengers continue to lower the bar of onboard behaviour.

Be charitable. They could not find the button. Don't underestimate people's cluelesness.
But yes, i have seen this too. Even occasionally some nice lady coming out before I went.
