The TORONTO STAR is reporting this morning that Fairmont has reconsidered its plans, and will not remove the sign afterall:
"Clearly, our hotel, it's a beloved icon of Toronto and we want to make the right decision, so we are withdrawing the (sign) application so we can review alternatives," said (Fairmont) spokesperson Melanie Coates.

The new rendering of the sign in yesterday's STAR shows a reworked "Royal York" under the standard FAIRMONT nametype, so it is a bit of a compromise. Interesing that at first it was claimed the two names could not be combined because they would not fit the space.
