So those pax with status will be assigned row 1-6.

Who does the assigning? - can you get one of the "J" seats in advance when you book, or is it up to the whim of the GA on the day (in which case, good luck)

Saturday nights should be spent with family.

What if there is 1 SE, 1 P and 4 Basics? Will the basics get the J seats too?

They can be assigned in advance. Starting on July 1, YUL/CDG will be the only active route with such operations.

Empress, what is the best way of making sure that your flight is international config. for J and not domestic? Does one need to check at the "last minute" also?

airbus320 good line but short of phoning do you have any other suggestions as to how to verify? I get the distinct impression at times when I call to ask such technical questions that they are afraid they are talking to someone with evil intentions (which might include making them work).

Aircraft get changed at the last moment and sometimes it is very difficult to forecast.

Would a coach award ticket for a status passenger get the bigger seat confirmed in advance, or does it have to be a paid ticket?

I think you would get priority as a status pax, but remember that there may not always be an annotation on your file indicating your status. Presumably you could ask at the time of booking.

Empress, check your source. I was told by Aeroplan that the ZRH - YYZ flights will NOT be Super Comfort, but full Executive First. At least that is what the Aeroplan agent told me!

She said that the only Super Comfort Flight were Glasgow.

Empress you are usually right, but hopefully wrong on this case!

backseat - as posted above, this route will be Executive First effective JUL01. Until then, it's all Y operations.

Yes, and I was just on that flt;checkin at MAN is with non AC staff and they are terrible to deal with.Made me weigh my carry on and tried to get me to check it due to "overweight" and actuallt called LHR AC staff for permission to let it on as cabin baggage.
S cabin was mostly full-5 empty seats and meal was crap. They ran out of bottled water half way through and were filling bottles with tap water. At least theseat was a domestic J and I had to use an upgrade from full Y to get it.
