This could either be by email, at the airport because some agent told you, you see your BP has ACMM remarks for the first time, you get an email from Air Canada congratulating you, you received your kit in the mail, etc.

I see very little benefit to being MM as long as I'm SE, so I'm not really in a rush to get there.

Hey YYZnomad - It was December 2020, and I got over the line with a 2,000 mile "status qualification boost" on my TD Aeroplan Visa. I'd rather have achieved it the old fashioned way, by flying. I'm travelling to YUL on Sunday and I would have hit the 1MM about 30 miles east of Winnipeg.

If you have an Aeroplan Infinite Visa (may be other cards work too) you get 1,000 AQM and 1 AQS for every $5,000 spent on the card. This has been in place since Air Canada reacquired Aeroplan. That's how I got the 2,000 AQM to take me to 1MM. You still need to meet the minimum AQD dollar spend to reach each threshold level.
