NEW! International Business Class Service Enhancements Eff. April 17 on Wide-Body Aircraft

Possibly to be rebranded Rebranded as Air Canada Signature Service Please see post #51 https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/29644079-post51.html

I started this thread and wiki in advance of the rebranding launch in order to preempt the multiple new threads that will be inevitably started, and giving a bit more "glue" to the information mixed in several other threads, as we have already started seeing.

The main purpose is to have all the rebranding information housed under this one thread.

Over time, as the rebranded products and services become mainstay and the norm, I anticipate that topics will go under their regular main threads such as International J meals, amenity kits, etc. At the same time, there is nothing wrong with posting in the other existing threads as well.

My international flying has been limited as of late, so any feedback, information, details, opinions, etc. from the rest here would be appreciated!

Thanks,

- yyznomad

MONTREAL, April 17, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Air Canada today introduced its new Air Canada Signature Service, providing an enhanced and seamless end-to-end travel experience for customers flying in Air Canada Signature Class, the premium cabin of its wide-body aircraft. Available today for international customers and, starting June 1 on select flights within North America, the new service makes Air Canada the first North American airline to designate aircraft with lie-flat seats for premium customers on select non-stop, transcontinental flights within Canada and to the U.S., including overnight daily flights from Vancouver, Los Angeles and San Francisco to Toronto.

Air Canada Signature Service customers will receive priority service at every stage of the journey, including access to airport concierge services, expedited check-in and security clearance, priority baggage handling and preferential boarding. Customers will also enjoy Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge access and, for eligible customers travelling to international destinations from Toronto-Pearson, access to the exclusive Air Canada Signature Suite, featuring à la carte restaurant dining from a menu created by celebrated Canadian chef David Hawksworth.

"Our new Air Canada Signature Service and Air Canada Signature Class brands reflect the ongoing refinements to our premium travel service. We know our premium customers travelling on longer flight itineraries place a high value on convenience and comfort when in airports or onboard an aircraft, and with Air Canada Signature Service we provide a level of service unsurpassed in North America on every widebody flight," said Benjamin Smith, President of Passenger Airlines, Air Canada.

"Customers travelling Air Canada Signature Class on international itineraries and, beginning in June, on select transcontinental flights within North America, will receive seamless Air Canada Signature Service. They will enjoy added amenities throughout their journey, from curbside-to-curbside and at all points in between."

Available starting today on all Air Canada international flights and beginning June 1 on select transcontinental flights within North America, Air Canada Signature Service and Air Canada Signature Class incorporate and elevate the award-winning attributes of Air Canada's International Business Class, featuring its next generation lie-flat suites. Air Canada Signature Service will be available on select transborder and domestic Canadian transcontinental flights when operated with Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Boeing 777, Boeing 767 and Airbus A330 aircraft. This includes routes between Toronto and the cities of Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver, and between Vancouver and the cities of New York-Newark and Montreal.

For full fare premium cabin customers originating in Toronto-Pearson or arriving at Toronto-Pearson originating from a domestic flight with onward international travel, Air Canada will also provide Air Canada Valet Service, powered by BMW, starting later in 2018. It is the first dedicated service offered by an airline in North America for customers booked in a premium cabin, where a dedicated fleet of BMW sedans whisk customers over the tarmac to connect, making connecting at Toronto-Pearson truly exclusive and seamless.

The fabulously popular Duck Leg Entree makes a return.

FYI - the launch of the above has been delayed slightly till mid month (April).

1) I agree with the above posts that the mattress pad is a nice addition.^

2) I much prefer the new Laurent Perrier over the old Drappier, so this is a very welcome change.^ (I should however mention that they ran out of champagne before the 2nd meal service even though the J cabin was far from full. I hope this was a fluke.)

3) I really enjoyed the new duck dish. The new sugar tart dessert also was quite tasty.

4) The new "signature cocktail" (bourbon, sprite, ginger ale, maple syrup, slice of lemon) wasn't bad, but a little too sweet for my taste. Reminded me a bit of an old-fashioned, but sweeter. Afaik I was the only pax who tried it, and the crew (who were excellent) were quite excited about getting my opinion and discussing the new changes.

5) The garlic bread is more like focaccia-style bread than the baguette-style bread one gets on many airline and was tasty.^ (for whatever reason it was only offered during the 1st meal service; maybe something AC could fix)

Overall AC has made some nice improvements.^ If AC invested in some somewhat better wines and made sure that they didn't run out of champagne and the various mid-flight snacks, I'd consider giving AC J a 5* rating.
Did you not use the bathroom or have they started cleaning them in-flight?

Also, generally cleanliness, has it improved?

Good point - cleanliness various greatly depending on the aircraft / flight / etc.

I can't say anything negative about the cleanliness on this particular flight, though I don't know whether that was a result of the FAs cleaning the washrooms or the relatively light load in PE/J.

[QUOTE=Transpacificflyer;29662263]Oh Dear. As soon as I saw the photo, I knew what it was. Anyone who has been in the hospital or visited someone will know.
It's a variation on the adult incontinence pad. How embarrassing.

Respectfully disagree

The duvet is also quilted and upthread, I posted photos of the AA mattress pad and to me, they are pretty much the same.

Did you try the new one? Pricewise the Drappier was rock bottom. Not sure what that means, but eh...

Never understood the hate for the Drappier (LP is decent, not slagging it), at the SAQ at least it is in the same price point as Veuve and Hugh Johnson rates it enough to include it in his wine guides over the last several years. Guess it is a branding thing (like some people buy an Audi S3 instead of a Golf R (same car) because rings in front).

Champagne was the least of AC J's problems, wish them well with the new product.

I have some "cuvée spéciale" in the basement from Drappier. 2012 and 2016. Love the stuff.

Also, was voted best in the air more than once.

LP is just... Normal.

Agreed it was the least of AC's problem, and I did not mind it. As to price, however: S47.75 at SAQ. Vs. 70.25 for Veuve Clicquot.

https://www.saq.com/page/en/saqcom/c...or-brut/734699

Laurent Perrier in between at $59. $64-discount; maybe it'sbecause of the discount that Ac got it?

https://www.saq.com/page/en/saqcom/c...ot-brut/563338

Still, my favorite remains Pol Roger vintage. As to Drappier, they have a low dosage one which I like. More expensive though.

Sorry did not see it was a 375mL for that price, my bad. Would not pay $70 for Veuve lol. Right there with you on the Pol Roger!

Not sure if this has been mentioned upthread? (I did not see anything about it.)

Are they back to serving real champagne during boarding, or does this remain a cheaper sparkling?

I just flew a TPAC with the new branding and new menu. I’ll post the bubbles and food porn when I have a chance

In no particular order.....

The Laurent Perrier is great. It has a really nice flavour, isn’t sweet and it worked really well on its own as well as with the meal.

You can all debate price point at retail, but I think AC made a change for the better and I enjoyed the new champagne.

The new menu cover is dark and marches the branding of the new zone signs.

The sparkling stuff was served as PDB. The name on the black bottle said “Bottega Brut 2016”. I have no idea how it tastes.

There were no Mimosas offered at any time, but I made my own.

I was not offered the Signature drink and I forgot about asking as I was busy with bubbles.

I really like the new dishes and salt and pepper shakers. More functional and elegant.

The new lobster and shrimp appetizer looked nice.

The garlic bread was great. It is definitely bread and not baguette but I liked the texture a flavour and it does not have overwhelming garlic.

I had the new salmon and it was excellent

I really like the new brown sugar tart dessert. It has a nice blend of flavours and textures and the drizzle made it more elegant.

I did not try the Courvoisier.

Finally, I like the new uniforms. Obviously the colour scheme is all part of the branding but it is a nice replacement from the blue of the “toothpaste” era. The men look very dapper (for lack of a better word). I also like the different options For the women. On the transcon and the TPAC, some were wearing dresses of different designs and others wore the pants with vest and jackets.

I think AC needs to change the scarf because the tiny black pin that identifies the SD is not really visible.

Overall, I think if AC can ensure that whatever is described on the Signature Class website, is reflected onboard.

Yes, there are many things AC can do better like clean the lavs, fix the deflating seats and have more consistency in the customer experience on the ground. Still, I give AC credit for making the changes.

Good to know!

I've been debating between it and the duck dish for my flight this weekend. This resolves it.

Also I don’t eat duck, tuna or shellfish, and I just can’t deal with AC beef, lol

Can confirm that TPAC 767 service gets the new improvements. New glasses are definitely smaller, the SD on my flight did quite a few double takes and made some comments on the smaller size.
The pre-departure sparking wine was OK....not great though IMO. Champagne was good though, had a nice fruity note. Mattress pad is fine I guess, was way thinner than I thought it would be. Only saving grace there is the material is quite nice to sleep on(better than the XM J upholstery anyway. Garlic bread was actually bread, not a baguettte. Char marks were nice to see, however they only appeared on one side of the bread;unfortunately, the bread was quite soft and did not have any crunch to it at all. Garlic flavor was mild and not overpowering. Like 24L noted, it was only offered during the first meal service. Zipping amenity kit is of good quality, much better than the one that was offered before. Not sure if the eyeshade is new too, since the last time I flew AC J was two years ago, but it did not have a little piece that would go over the bridge of your nose, so there was a little bit of light that got in.Overall, good improvements by AC. Lobster appetizer had good flavour, but my piece of lobster was tiny.
