NEW! International Business Class Service Enhancements Eff. April 17 on Wide-Body Aircraft

Possibly to be rebranded Rebranded as Air Canada Signature Service Please see post #51 https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/29644079-post51.html

I started this thread and wiki in advance of the rebranding launch in order to preempt the multiple new threads that will be inevitably started, and giving a bit more "glue" to the information mixed in several other threads, as we have already started seeing.

The main purpose is to have all the rebranding information housed under this one thread.

Over time, as the rebranded products and services become mainstay and the norm, I anticipate that topics will go under their regular main threads such as International J meals, amenity kits, etc. At the same time, there is nothing wrong with posting in the other existing threads as well.

My international flying has been limited as of late, so any feedback, information, details, opinions, etc. from the rest here would be appreciated!

Thanks,

- yyznomad

MONTREAL, April 17, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Air Canada today introduced its new Air Canada Signature Service, providing an enhanced and seamless end-to-end travel experience for customers flying in Air Canada Signature Class, the premium cabin of its wide-body aircraft. Available today for international customers and, starting June 1 on select flights within North America, the new service makes Air Canada the first North American airline to designate aircraft with lie-flat seats for premium customers on select non-stop, transcontinental flights within Canada and to the U.S., including overnight daily flights from Vancouver, Los Angeles and San Francisco to Toronto.

Air Canada Signature Service customers will receive priority service at every stage of the journey, including access to airport concierge services, expedited check-in and security clearance, priority baggage handling and preferential boarding. Customers will also enjoy Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge access and, for eligible customers travelling to international destinations from Toronto-Pearson, access to the exclusive Air Canada Signature Suite, featuring à la carte restaurant dining from a menu created by celebrated Canadian chef David Hawksworth.

"Our new Air Canada Signature Service and Air Canada Signature Class brands reflect the ongoing refinements to our premium travel service. We know our premium customers travelling on longer flight itineraries place a high value on convenience and comfort when in airports or onboard an aircraft, and with Air Canada Signature Service we provide a level of service unsurpassed in North America on every widebody flight," said Benjamin Smith, President of Passenger Airlines, Air Canada.

"Customers travelling Air Canada Signature Class on international itineraries and, beginning in June, on select transcontinental flights within North America, will receive seamless Air Canada Signature Service. They will enjoy added amenities throughout their journey, from curbside-to-curbside and at all points in between."

Available starting today on all Air Canada international flights and beginning June 1 on select transcontinental flights within North America, Air Canada Signature Service and Air Canada Signature Class incorporate and elevate the award-winning attributes of Air Canada's International Business Class, featuring its next generation lie-flat suites. Air Canada Signature Service will be available on select transborder and domestic Canadian transcontinental flights when operated with Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Boeing 777, Boeing 767 and Airbus A330 aircraft. This includes routes between Toronto and the cities of Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver, and between Vancouver and the cities of New York-Newark and Montreal.

To note, Air Canada Signature Service with lie-flat suites to provide a full night's rest will be available daily on the following North American non-stop overnight flights beginning June 1.

For full fare premium cabin customers originating in Toronto-Pearson or arriving at Toronto-Pearson originating from a domestic flight with onward international travel, Air Canada will also provide Air Canada Valet Service, powered by BMW, starting later in 2018. It is the first dedicated service offered by an airline in North America for customers booked in a premium cabin, where a dedicated fleet of BMW sedans whisk customers over the tarmac to connect, making connecting at Toronto-Pearson truly exclusive and seamless.

Sounds similar to my experiences. I didn't realize it was only two, but I've seen them finish it on YYZ-SFO, and I've seen them have half a bottle for SFO-YYZ.

I don't know that only 2 sparkling are boarded for the transcons, just that 2 were boarded for the outbound and thus none for my return flight.

There have also been TPAC flights with no Laurent Perrier boarded at all.

I'm not sure why this is so difficult for AC and whoever does their catering to manage, unless the intent is to limit the quantities in the first place. Just guessing.

That said.......today's Altitude Report also had this section:

Deciding I'd click through to the AC.com page on the topic....

And once again, telling customers that a "superior dining and beverage service" will be available and my flight lacked the sparkling beverage as well as 2 of the 4 meal items listed on the menu.......

Also, the website suggests that you can look up the menu for your flight and for quite some time now, no menus are even available for transcons

Either remove the suggestion from the website page or add in the menus. It looks silly.

Signature service transCanada pricing

Was considering booking a J class ticket YVR YUL return this fall for a business trip. Prices are about $1800 each way. Economy is $250. Pretty hard to justify even for a business trip, especially when not even a red eye flight. Also I guess there is no signature suite like in YYZ? I find the pods fairly cramped and AC wine selection on the cheap side. I guess this is one of the big profit runs for AC with a lot of corporate money? That's about the same as YVR to Delhi I flew last year. Is this a price increase vs regular business for this segment in the past? Perhaps Oct is just an expensive month for this route?

AC's domestic J pricing has always been ridiculous. A couple of years back, long before Signature, they introduced "Business Class (Transcontinental)", which was just them charging $300 extra each way for flights on widebodies instead of narrowbodies. I think that premium has remained in effect.

As for Signature Suite, no, there's no Signature Suite lounge access on a domestic flight.

Yes to all, but would you rather fly 10 abreast in economy class or 4 abreast in business class? And yes, it goes without saying it's fair to assume these are high yield runs for Air Canada.

Just flew YYZ-ICN-YYZ in J. Last time on AC in J was four years ago. I was quite pleased with the new Signature service. The Suites Lounge at YYZ is very nice -- much better than the MLL. My only problem was that AC61 leaves at 13:45 with lunch served immediately, so no real point in eating up at the Lounge. For evening TATLs, though, it would be a great option.

Once on board, the service director introduced herself (on both flights) and remembered my name with each subsequent interaction. LP champagne was great, as was the duck leg going out. A bit less pleased by the sole on the return -- but no issues at all with the smoked fish appetizer. But the real winner was the Korean noodles and chicken option for breakfast on the return. Maybe the best airline breakfast dish that I have had. Altogether, the flights, crew and service were first rate. Would chose again in a heartbeat -- especially since AC prices are typically much less than UA's out of IAD.

AC34 YVR-YYZ. No menus, 2 menu items verbally presented, no mattress pad, no signature cocktail....nothing special really. Cheap Prem Econ amenity kit.
Messaged AC on FB, and had the most ludicrous conversation. I was advised that bc I was on a latitude upgrade I don’t receive the amenities. I explained that the whole 777 J cabin must have been upgraded in that case and that inflight amenities don’t change based on how one gets into J. Silly. I’m glad the wind didn’t change or my eyes would still be rolled back. It seems to be no different than the usual Transcon....just a new name.

"2 menu items" isn't "the usual transcon".

Something strange seems to have happened there.

Exactly...thank you! The Facebook rep said, “You had to buy the fare to get the extra inflight amenities, even though you are seated in the same cabin as Signature paying pax”.

Wow, is all I can say to that comment. The FAs just simply didn’t do it...simple.

Sounds like the plane didn't get loaded properly. I've flown the Trans Con Signature Class 8 times since it's rolled out. YVR-YYZ YVR-YUL Vice Versa. So far it's blown me away compared to the previous service which I've flown dozens of times. Only hiccup I had was on the very first flight, it seemed like it was the first time for the service for most of the crew. They had a shortage of linens and amenity kits and they only had packaged premium plus crackers. Did you ask them for a Signature cocktail? Odd that they didn't couldn't make one unless they didn't have maple syrup otherwise its only bourbon, ginger ale and sprite.

Personally, I'm loving the Hawksworh options for a domestic flight as well as the cheese course.

Further to the recent post upthread by @D582 about the semi-Signature service we received on our flight to SFO, as well as the missing food and faux bubbles on my AC from LAX which I also posted above, this is my recent AC 101 YYZ to YVR experience:

There were no mattress pads on any of the J seats
I asked a FA and he wasn’t sure about whether they were offered. I eventually got one from the SD

Later in the flight, another FA told me that they are no longer placed in the seats but are “by request only”

lol

And guess what? No faux-bubbles boarded at all.

Again, Galley FA said that she noticed Gate Gourmet did not board any and asked for them but also decided not to delay the flight.

I mentioned that we had none on AC 788 ex-LAX red-eye. It seems for transcons, only 2 bottle are loaded on the outbound and 1 is supposed to be for the return.

So so how does that work? One bottle for each flight, yet 2 bottles are consumed on the outbound so none left for the return?

I find this entire North American roll-out if the Signature Service on the widebodies on the select routes, to be “inconsistent” with the message AC put out there along with the experience we are receiving.

Is no one auditing Gate Gourmet to see that they are placing all required items onboard?

Or is AC the decision-maker with regard to limiting these items to save money?

I wonder if perhaps AC should have done a soft launch for a few months and make sure things are working.

and yes perhaps #FWP

I was told that the mattress pads were available upon request during daytime flights and would be at your seat on nighttime flights. i had one on my seat on my AC033 flight as well as my NRT-YVR flight. The rest of my flights, they were in an overhead. I was excited about them when I heard but find them way too thin. It's still better than nothing but some airlines pads are actual foam.

As noted in my initial post upthread, crew advised that 2 of the menu choices were not onboard.

I have no idea if this was another "catering error" or no one is paying attention to what actually gets boarded on the outbounds. In this case, the fish and chicken skewers were not available.

As you can see, the Bottega sparkling is listed on the menu but was not onboard. It seems only 2 bottles were boarded on the outbound AC 793 and thus zip for those heading back to YYZ.

I opted for the salad and the brownie. No fruit was available.

The salad had nice pieces of roasted red pepper and artichoke.

Two photos of the brownie. IMO, it beats the rock hard cookie by a mile

No cheese service? I've had cheese on my last 8 menus. Weird.
