FlyerTalk Forums Expert How-Tos and Guides
Last edit by: jc94
This new annual thread has been carved out of the previous thread in an effort to reduce the number of megathreads on the AC forum. For those interested previous versions are the original 2004 - 2014 thread , 2015 edition, 2016 edition and 2017 edition

The original thread started by accident but quickly became a popular place to come and discuss off topic things such as hockey, new movies, or almost anything that wouldn't fit into existing AC forum threads. More Air Canada or Aeroplan topics such as flight feedback, in-flight services issues or mileage earning/redemption are all topics that should go into existing AC forum threads so others can benefit from this information. Topics about hotels or airlines and/or their loyalty programs should be posted elsewhere on FT as should topics better suited to other forums such as Travel Products for questions about luggage or Travel Photography for discussion about cameras.

While the conversation is more relaxed as it would be in a lounge that doesn't mean however that the FT rules don't apply here as they definitely do so please refrain from controversial topics such as politics or religion, avoid profanities and treat other lounge patrons with the same respect you expect.

I will pile on here, but my stop will be HND.

I'm a Hibiki and Nikka fan, but honestly, almost any Japanese Whiskey will do in my books.

Well, even more reason for a AC/AP FF to invite themselves to the Grand Opening of the Wetcoast SSL - date soon to be announced.

Not much left in this bottle and happy to share what is left.

You must be making good headway this week with the weather reprieve.

One of our job candidate (new grad) changed the interview time twice, then no showed for the meeting without any notice.

This is the second time in the past two month. What's going on with ethics or common sense nowadays????

I reported this candidate on the hiring platform, and write "NO SHOWED FOR INTERVIEW" on this person's resume and left it at a very visible spot in common area of the office (we are in a co-working space).

We had a new hire start in August who didn't stay past 3pm and just sort of disappeared for a couple of days. He had a very serious talking to by a few members of our leadership team and he's been given another chance, but man, that's a mountain I wouldn't want to have to climb.

As per @yyz_consulted I think the reference was to consulting jargon with respect to utilization ("on the beach/bench") and/or whether one is generally busy (billable or non-billable work). At least, that's the term we used back in the management consulting heydays...

As clients usually ask me to assist with their "talent acquisition" efforts, they often tell me of such stories. I remember at one client site (not a story told to me from a client, because I was there to witness it) there was a new hire who, within their first week, began sleeping and snoring at their desk... where they sat within earshot of the executive admin assistant's area. According to this new hire, s/he had no reported health issues or requests/requirements for physical/health accommodations in the office setting.

I've only experienced this twice, with a phone interview. The first time, the candidate said he had sent the recruiter a message to reschedule. Fine, wires got crossed. The second time, he said he was injured (broken bone - I assume the pain or meds made things difficult), but had never attempted to change anything.

Injury is a great excuse for moving an interview. But don't waste my time.

And then of course we gave them another chance. I have mixed feelings about that.

If tonight's game is an example of things to come with this young September call-up team, then I'm looking forward to it.
Perhaps not as insane each time, but still a nice thing to see... down 8-2 in the bottom of the 9th and score 7 runs for the walk off win.

(and this is all without Vlad Jr!)

(Tellez is an XBH machine!)

Interview no shows seem to be par for the course these days. It’s rare for an entire panel to turn up.

Or as a friend had, a phone call saying changed their mind 2 days before starting.

It’s just so rude. And not all millenials either.

At the very least, did they give your friend a reason?
