Important Event Notes
  • Promo codes are not applicable to this event. Upgrades and AE redemptions are blocked by revenue management - you get what you pay for.
  • No hockey puck beef will be served! If it is, send it back! (Unless that's actually what you like, you weirdo?)
  • The Do website will be down for regularly scheduled maintenance. Often. But we won't bother to tell you in advance.

Important Event Notes (real ones this time!)
  • The burger and Scotch theme is purely optional. Those are the specialties of the restaurant, but you're free to have a salad and a diet Coke, fish and white wine or whatever floats your boat.
  • Buchanan's does weekly tasting flights for a slightly reduced price. We'll have access to a few of these from recent weeks for anyone who's interested.
  • The Do host has not achieved Dorian's level of wealth and generosity. No T-shirts or other swag will be provided.
  • Reservation is under Adam Smith, but that shouldn't really be necessary. We will be taking up most of the main dining room, to the left after walking into the restaurant.

I thought it was for people who averaged under 21 flights a week?

Thanks to Adam Smith for organizing a successful DO! It looked like 100% capacity on seating with little to no no-shows, which is impressive.

It was nice meeting some new people, and seeing the same ol same ol.

I was disappointed that there were no actual dingleberries in attendance.

So some of you saw my "brick" of boarding passes from the last 2.5 months. Some of you did not since I was at the corner table the entire time.

When I got to YYC domestic security after th DO, one of the god-like CATSA agents began questioning me about them. I asked him politely not to mess with the order, and that caused him to put on his God-like aura:

SIR SIR SIR LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME
are these all yours?
Is your name on all of them?
SIR I am going to have to inspect these.
Why do you fly a lot?
SIR I will look at these as I wish.

<slowly flipping through my BPs>

I let him have his dingleberry glory moment. What a doucehtard.
For a split second I thought he was going to confiscate them.

Anyway, this god-like figure made me hate YYC even more. Riding those stupid anamaniacs buggies is such a joke. Meep meep!

Unbelievable. What possible purpose could this serve?

Unless of course he was trying to decide whether or not he could compete in the 2017 Earn Your Wings promotion. If so, I guess he got his answer.

I had a total ......... agent once, I called him out on it since I was heading from the airport to work (old job) and did not really care to go to the office. I of course got pulled aside for secondary screening where I was super polite and courteous and helped out in any way possible. They looked over my paperwork, notice who pulled me aside and they even said the agen who pulled me aside was an a**hole. I replied with "I noticed" and they couldn't contain their giggles. Even his coworkers hated him.

Yeah it's getting increasingly challenging to respect CATSA agents.

The pathetic thing is that I was way over my limit for 100mL bottles but the douchetard focused on my boarding passes of all things.

I will post s pic of my BP DO WAD shortly.

Adam, may I suggest a YYC Ski-DO?

During last EYW, I had two CATSA agents get into a heated argument with each other. A supervisor had to come out and break them apart.

Agent 1 had asked me to take out any laptops and put them into a bin. I showed him my Microsoft surface Pro4 w/keyboard and asked what to do. He rolled his eyes and rudely told me I wasn't listening to him and tablets like mine stay in my bag.

Agent 2 running the xray saw my surface, refused to clear it, kicked it back for secondary screening. Back to agent 1.

They proceeded to yell their differing views on tablet vs laptop to each other. I was very grateful that my tablet (or my laptop?) was not dropped or thrown.

Since then I detach the keyboard and put it in a different pocket of my bag.

Thanks for posting the photo! Pretty awesome! Puts my meager collection to shame. That may be about the last 15-20 years for me ... and I'm not even a proper FOTSG.

The criteria are pretty simple. If it has a keyboard, it is considered to be a laptop, no keyboard it's a tablet. Seems pretty straightforward to me.

However, given the inconsistency between airports and countries, I just take them out regardless if necessary or not. It takes what - 5 seconds to take out and another 5 seconds to put back in the bag? Those 10 seconds spent are a lot less time than the time spent talking (arguing) with the screener. ^
