LMU or Early Bid ?

I'm new to Air Canada upgrade system and i was not sure what would be the best option.

Does anyone of you know if the price for LMU are better than the early bid ? I know there is the availability in the equation but i'm willing to take the chance not to upgrade or to be lucky and pay less.

The jury is still out on that one.
Since the usual discussion archeologist is on leave, you can find the discussion to date in these threads:

Early bid guarantees an upgrade. But you pay more for it otherwise AC would just stay with the LMU process. The bid process is run by a third party company on behalf of AC (they also do this for other airlines).
IMHO based on my own experience, LMU is cheaper in most instances than an early bid. But off course you may not get a LMU.

Early bid does not guarantee an upgrade.

There have been reports of a flight being R4, someone makes a bid, it's rejected, and the flight is still R4.

I think the "usual discussion archeologist" you mentioned is back, as of this morning.

But nevertheless, looks like we have more than one discussion archeologist

LMU isn't guaranteed either, with online check-in.. but my experience is if you ask at the airport they'll sell you the LMU. Air Canada's product should be absolutely aligned with revenue.

If you first talk to someone who gets stuck thinking you're talking about status benefits, talk to someone else. Make it clear that you wish to purchase a last minute upgrade with money, with credit card or wad of legal tender in hand.

Let's be clear...

You mean LMU might not be made available at OLCI.

But if one is offered LMU and one accepts and purchases it, then for all intents and purposes, it is then considered a "guaranteed" upgrade.

LMU is guaranteed. You pay, you get the seat. Money talks with regards to LMU. If there is no seat, than LMU is not offered.

I think what is being said is that LMU is not guaranteed to be offered, but if offered, and paid for, then sitting in J is guaranteed*. (subject to the usual irrops changes etc.)

What I meant was if your bid was accepted then you are guaranteed an upgrade. So what I was suggesting was if the upgrade is a must then bid till accepted. LMU is cheaper but may not be offered as the cabin may end up full by that time.

With the exception of those J1 offers of $5k for a TATL, LMU seems to offer better value.

The bid advantage, is that it clears 4 days out before some can even request an eUp and certainly before some will buy a seat. The low end minimum bid often seems to be close to a Flex to P buy up though.
