Strange codeshare today

I just saw that there is a Royal Jordianian airline code share from and to LHR. I never knew RJ flies codeshares with AC. Anyone know why?

It's been happening for over 2 years.

They codeshare on AC862 westbound and AC859 eastbound.

I saw the AC website and it said from March 1999 to Sept 1999. YYZ-LHR-(RJ)AMM. I never saw RJ on the YYZ page.

I think the RJ codeshare may go back further than 1999. That's a reciprocal agreement that's been around for as long as I can remember.

I once heard a rumor that RJ's Canadian landing rights were rescinded by TC for safety violations, but I can't confirm it.

I think that RJ had flights from YUL-Amman at some point int he past and AC placed its code on these. I think RJ has pulled out of Canada at this point.

Can you get upgraded from this code share? My experience has been one of almost total confusion on code shares. Some agents say yes you can get upgraded using AC certs, others say no.

Medal is the best policy but it is hard to know exactly the medal on some of these code shares. I find this policy misleading, confusing and disingenuous.

No you cannot. AC certs can only be used on AC operated flights. If it's booked on an AC flight number - then you can confirm it in advance. If it was booked under another airline's flight number, then it's day of departure standby only.
