if u look at his twitter conversation record, you can see that the flight associated with his girlfriend's booking ref, was cancelled.

From the blog post, it looks like he was booked on a red eye from YYC but asked to be changed to a flight the next day because he was tired. With this new info, I've changed my mind. Since he asked for the change I don't think AC should reimburse him for the hotel.
He may be due something for IDB, but that is it.

Going public with his story is folly in ways that Quinyan probably never considered. Hypothetical situation:
He applies for a job and his resumé is one of many being screened. The interviewer remembers his name from the CBC story, or simply googles his name and finds the story. Do you think quotes attributed to him like "it's about feelings ... emotional things" and "It made me feel very confused, lost and depressed" would improve his chances of being selected for an interview?

Also, I am kind of glad I know know his website. I plan to block it from now on.

As an aside... has he completed his PhD? or is he studying for it currently?

This guy is starting to remind me of the guy last year with the wheelchair that wouldn't fit in a CRJ. It all sounds bad at first, but as the details come out things seem to be overblown.
He still might deserve a little something for an IDB though.
I don't understand the issue with his UA Silver card causing ID problems.

I looked at his twitter feed. One can read items such as this: (Bolding is mine)
Definitely need to have the last bite of Alberta beef before you leave Canada with Air Canada 777 Dream Liner
He even posts his Avios Number and a booking reference and puts up photos of his AC ticket.

Regarding his presumed desire for future employment, there are jobs that probably look upon this story positively. WS for example.
I'm sure some industries love people in touch with their softer side. Or is that softer skills.

He's lucky they didn't charge him $75 or whatever to change his flight to next day.

I found this on the UA website.
Access to most sold-out flights: Premier members may receive confirmed reservations - even when a flight is sold out - when purchasing certain full-fare tickets. This benefit ...applies to Premier Silver members when purchasing an unrestricted Y class ticket at least 24 hours prior to departure.
This could explain why an identity issue only cropped up at the gate. Airport security don't give a dingaling about your airline status, only that you have a valid piece of ID and a valid ticket, period. However, if you are trying to take advantage of a status perk like getting priority access to an otherwise sold out flight, a GA might need to ascertaine that your status is valid and up to date - especially if you used OLCI.
Again, it's only a guess, and as I said, I have not been that great a guesser so far.

You people have it all wrong.
The girlfriend is a comfort girlfriend.
Or the guy has a medical condition that requires a comfort iguana.
Or maybe he isn't old enough to fend for himself, or feels like when the gf is not next to him, he feels like a vulnerable child who needs something to nibble on.
It must be one of these right? Because if it applies in other situations, why not this one? Hmm? Pray tell.

I've done a lousy job of guessing so far but there's no guesser like a bad guesser. Or in other words, I don't know when to quit. Here goes:

I still don't understand how the way the situation affected him nullifies or detracts from how AC handled the situation.
This is one of those bizarre threads where the people accusing this guy of being easily affected are manifesting all the behaviours of people who are easily affected/offended in their own reaction to him. They're as offended by his behaviour as he is by AC, but the offence they take is presumably more justified and righteous.
And for those of you waiting with bated breath for a passenger bill of rights... Good luck. It's being put forward by a department that has a history of putting airlines ahead of passengers. It would be foolhardy to the extreme to expect that this bill of rights will be any different.
But we can hope, I guess.
