Looks like another AC screw-up, but this guy is really hamming it up. Emotional distress at being separated from his girlfriend for one night, please :rolleyes:

They seem to have routed him through Calgary without a hotel room.

I'd have a lot more sympathy for the dude if he didn't yammer stuff like this:

Well the thing about 90 minutes is definitely a red herring, the check-in cutoff for domestic flights is 45 minutes and if he got to the gate then surely he checked in successfully somewhere whether online or at the airport.

AC denied boarding for some reason. Maybe overbooking, maybe they closed the flight before resolving whatever the issue was with his ID (???) in order to get it out on time, maybe they cleared a standby passenger into his seat. Assuming he presented himself for check-in and boarding prior to the respective cutoff times with valid ID, it seems to me that AC should compensate him.

The thing about his girlfriend is just... weird. But not really material to the situation.

But it looks like CBC has it's own AC collection. LOLLLL

So what? Inconvenience, yes. Frustration, sure. But it's not like they sent him to Somalia. If he was truly as emotionally damaged by the experience as the article suggests, he's an extremely fragile person. But I smell a ploy to milk AC for some sort of extra compensation, or to more favourably position a story that isn't so clear-cut in the traveller's favour as it might seem on the surface.

I am of course guessing, but if this was the case here, and if the guy indeed arrived at the airport (not the gate) only 60 minutes ahead of time, i.e. with only 15 minutes to clear security, get to gate, line up for boarding, etc. etc. then I can see the possibility of there not being sufficient time for the GA to resolve any confusion before the waitlist started to clear, with his seat being shown as available to the waitlist.

The next available flight with the earliest arrival time at destination involved an overnight. The issue is whether the delay that occasioned this itinerary was wholly down to to AC or at least partially originating with the passenger. Impossible to tell from info given in article.

When did I say that? Why is it that people on this board so often see only black and white? I started my post by saying "[l]ooks like another AC screw-up".

But it's entirely possible for AC to have screwed up (and owe compensation) AND the story about the emotional impact to be overwrought at the same time.

That's cool. Maybe you should say that next time instead of being one sided in your prior post.
