I would advise against those dates for reasons.

Well, my vote is for something IN Vancouver (not Whistler).

My vote is also for Feb 4 (or later, but I'm pretty flexible).

I like the idea of hitting up the slopes.

Perhaps, but don't let the preferences of any single member unduly influence your actions. This is YOUR initiative, remember, and if certain others can't make it, for reasons declared or otherwise, then that's their loss.

Vancouver is a great destination and convenient if flying in, but if you want to truly create an event where people get to spend quality time with each other rather than breeze into town in the early evening and skip out early to fly out on the 22:30 flight to wherever, then why not Whistler?

"Until 4:30PM : Skiing/Snowboarding - Personal Activity Time"

That's "quality time with each other" ?

If we're just going to meet up for dinner/drinks at 1730, why does it need to be several hours away from an AC hub?

Also, having been to various YVR and YYZ dos, I'd say the YVR ones are pretty good at not dying at 2230

Whistler would be nice. But owing to a torn meniscus, the only thing I'd be doing is drinking from whenever I get there to whenever I leave. Which is totally fine by me.

Um, absolutely it could be. I think you're equating "personal" with "solo".

Because there's a big wide world away from the international airport. People familiar with Whistler know the elapsed time from the YVR curb to the ski hill is under two hours. The implied schedule - if partaking in the activities - would begin much earlier than 17:30.

Yes indeed...for some. It seems as many people depart on an evening flight as shut down the DO venue, and hosting an event removed from an airport might encourage some people to slow down and be present for the gathering.

Is there an option for a Surrey Do?

Well let's keep it classy and suggest a South Surrey Do!

But seriously, whistler would be a good little jaunt for a Do depending on the date.

Also, might be worth a pre/post Do stop at Howe Sound Brewing in Squamish.

You know to break the drive up!

Good luck with the planning and will stay tuned to see the final decision.

I'm starting to change my mind.

It's been a while since I really exercised my luggage allowance, and skis/boots do a good job at that.
