Air Canada Announces Toronto-Mumbai 787 Dreamliner Service

http://www.stockhouse.com/news/press...mliner-service

MONTREAL, Sept. 28, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - Air Canada today announced it is launching a new, three-times weekly service between Toronto and Mumbai, the largest city and financial capital of India. The non-stop, year-round service will be operated starting July 1, 2017 using a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

"Air Canada is pleased to offer customers this new, non-stop route between Toronto and Mumbai. This is Air Canada's third route to India after Toronto-Delhi service that began last fall and our new seasonal Vancouver-Delhi service commencing next month. This will be the only non-stop service between Canada and Mumbai and with it Air Canada now offers the best coverage of any carrier operating in the Canada-India market," said Benjamin Smith, President, Passenger Airlines at Air Canada.

"The Canada-India Business Council welcomes Air Canada's announcement today. The Canada-India corridor offers tremendous economic opportunities and our organization is working to promote trade and commerce between our two countries. Air linkages are essential to this, so having a non-stop flight between Canada's and India's financial and business centers should serve as a further catalyst to this rapidly developing trade relationship," said Gary Comerford, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canada-India Business Council.

With the announcement of the new Toronto-Mumbai route, Air Canada now offers three Boeing 787 Dreamliner routes between Canada and India, including year-round daily Toronto-Delhi service and seasonal Vancouver-Delhi service launching Oct. 20, 2016. Toronto-Mumbai will operate year-round with Air Canada's state-of-the-art Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The aircraft features 30 International Business Class lie-flat seat suites, 21 Premium Economy and 247 Economy Class seats, with upgraded in-flight entertainment at every seat throughout the aircraft.

Flights will be available for sale immediately with special introductory pricing and are timed to optimize connectivity at Air Canada's global hub at Toronto Pearson. All flights provide for Aeroplan accumulation and redemption and, for eligible customers, priority check-in, Maple Leaf Lounge access, priority boarding and other benefits.

Ahhh the beauty of a protectionist subsidy.
Allow open market, and the ME3 kill this AC route within a month.

Good for AC for taking advantage though

Hitting the nail on the head.

"best coverage of any carrier operating in the Canada-India market"

Kind of like saying Al Capone was the best gangster in Chicago in the 30's.

I'm not convinced the Capone analogy is an apt one, but no matter. AC's statement is a bit strange, as one is left wondering just what "best coverage" actually means.

The current market prompted AC to upgauge YYZDXB
The current market prompted EK to start charging for seat selection on YYZDXB

Oh? I had no idea that EK's YYZ-DXB was doing so badly they had to resort to seat selection fees on only YYZ-DXB flights. Remarkable. Presumably the fees are because of AC entering the route?

That aside, I'm enjoying AC's expansion spree - more capacity= always better for consumers.

Gotta wonder though - where are all these passengers coming from? I thought the Canadian market was already very well served prior to this AC/ACr expansion according to many including, I believe, you. This huge international capacity growth... seems to suggest Canada was underserved in the not so recent past, no? In fact, it may still be.

You're missing YVR-LHR at ~4100nm and YVR-BNE at ~6388nm

But it will never be a market competing against the UAE. While I don't agree with all
The aqusations against them, and we probably should have some more flights (as long they are not Toronto) they are still a company that benifits from government capital and likely influence. That's OK if that's how you want to run an airline, but if countries push back that should be expected.

It's the same reason you can never have free trade with China, government pushes back and tries to dictate and control market.

I will cease my lurking to add YYC-FRA at 4069nm (I think).

Was not so bad in Y on the A330. Have not tried it on a 787.

Why? How much traffic is there to the middle east? If you just want to open up Canada for cheap air tickets, then we should open up Canada for every industry. I could save a lot more on my IT costs then my travel cost if this happened.

So lets get this straight
Air Canada should be free to shuttle people between USA and Mumbai via a 3rd city - However, ME3 should be banned from transporting people Between Canada and Mumbai via a 3rd city

Even our resident AC SD confirmed that most of the people on their TLV-YYZ flights, continue onwards to the USA.

By your warped logic, there should be a limit on YYZ-TLV flights because there is not enough traffic and AC resorts to flying people from a 3rd country (USA).
