Master thread: CIBC Aeroplan credit cards

For CIBC Aerogold Visa for business

20,000 aeroplan points after first purchase....WOW,no minimum spend!

$180 annual fee waived for first year if applied before October 31,2015 ^

How easy is it to get a "business card",if you're,say...a sole proprietor?

Well zoobtoob here is a "Sole Proprietor" and has the card you're asking about.

I'll run you through the procedure I went through on how I validated my business.
1. Apply for card online
2. Receive letter asking for clarification on the type of business.
3. Scribble my main occupation on the paper and fax it back (I was too lazy to call it in)
4. Card shows up next week.

I never even talked to a human.

Why do they ask for that again since the application form requires that information in the first place?

Are you using the card or did you get that for points only. If so do you find it a good card to use for overall purchases and have you claimed any insurances the card carries.

Anyone tried for 2 cards? (I control 3 separately named corporations)

I will in a week or so. Only issue is my card (only 2 weeks old) only has my name on it, not my biz one. I swear my old Aerobiz cards had my biz name on them. The worst they can say is no I guess.

I tried to get the regular card, wanted the bonus and I think the card is very nice aesthetically.

They approved me but I had to present myself at a CIBC branch for some reason during a specific set of days, which I knew I couldn't so we cancelled the app. Not sure why they needed that, but whatever.

Applied again online a month or two later, thinking that now I did have time to meet them if they asked me again...never heard back from them at all.

Sidebar; does anyone know if an application like that would cause the credit rating "enquiry" or since they never contacted me one way or the other is it more likely they ignored it or forgot it or something?

I think the personal card bonus was 15,000 and $120 fee, which I thought was a decent deal by itself, this is obviously much better.

Was at YYZ in Sept. Saw the CIBC booth, but did not see any sign about FYF so didn't stop to ask. If they offered the FYF I'd sign up.

Stopped in to YYZ CIBC branch yesterday before flight. About a 15 minute process. Online form agent was filling in asked for my HST # which I had forgotten. Missing data can be added at any CIBC branch.
