AC966 Sep 22 different flight path than normal into BGI

Was sitting on the beach watching the planes come in to Barbados. For the most part every day they all take the same route coming across from west to east to land so it's easy to watch them come in. Same yesterday for all the flights we could see except AC966 did a huge loop before they landed. Almost appeared as if they were coming in too high or something and needed the loop to get down to approach altitude.

Anyone know how to see why they took a different flight path than normal?

That's very interesting. I can pretty much guarantee they didn't just fly off into the middle of the ocean

There's a good post on FlightRadar24 on how these types of map errors come about:

Unrelated, I've recently become a feeder of data to FlightRadar24; using a Raspberry Pi with an antenna on the shed. I can pick up flights 75-100 miles out. This gets me FlightRadar24 Premium for free.

Fun little project. http://www.flightradar24.com/increase-coverage

I do agree, most landings come from west to east.(That is why having a seat on the left side of the plane is better). Odd landing for AC966.

I've seen an AA flight make a similar approach a few weeks ago.

What was strange was that they did the loop, then landed on the same path they were coming from before. they did a big wide right turn and right back past us (at a much lower altitude). The first time they went by I could barely make out that it was an AC plane, the 2nd time it was much much lower and easily identifiable.
