Eligible to use eupgrade??

Hi,

I booked by Air Canada vacation and my flight schedule has two segment

from YHZ -> YYZ -> CUN. I'm currently 50k elite, so I know that I'm not

eligible to request any upgrade from YYZ to CUN because it's Sun Destination

segment, so only 75k or 100k can ask to do that.

My question is, I'm wondering that first segment of my flight from YHZ to YYZ

are eligible to request an eupgrade if Air Canada vacation fare class is Flex?

Or, anyway my entire flight was booked by AC vacation, so I can't request

even for my first segment. Thanks!!^

You can eUpgrade to CUN. Sun destinations are allowed with no add-on.

Just international dests require an add-on.

Incorrect, OP has booked this through ACV so only able to upgrade if 75/100K.

OP, was your first segment also booked through ACV? ACV buys seats from AC and therefore has many more restrictions than a mainline ticket since your fare is consolidated with a vacation package. I suspect you will not be able to upgrade your first leg. But you could certainly try when you check-in at the airport. I would not get your hopes up though.

Your second segment to CUN will not be eligible for upgrade, but you will be on rouge so you won't be missing much.

I do not believe this is correct. If an ACV flight is booked in Flex or higher, it should be treated as a normal flight for eUpgrade purposes. AFAIK SE100's and E75's have an additional benefit over other elites where they can upgrade from Tango fares if they booked through ACV.

** For Air Canada Vacations bookings in Tango booking classes, eUpgrades may only be requested on eligible flights between Canada and a Sun destination within the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America. Certain flights departing Cuba may be excluded
OP - confirm if your booking class is Flex for both segments. If it is, you should be good to go.

Thanks, all!!

I called to AC 50k line and asked about my question.
The answer was, even my flight was bokked by ACV,
if fare class is Flex, I can request using eupgrade.

However, it works not exactly as general booking at ac.com.
Upgrade request only available 24hrs before departure, which
means only at the time of checkin available!

Something doesn't make sense with what the agent said, I think she is only partially right (right that you can upgrade, wrong about when). IMHO you should try to use your eUpgrades at the regular E50 upgrade window for Flex.

Click on "sun destinations" using the following link:

http://www.aircanada.com/en/aeroplan...des/howto.html

The booking window of "at check-in" (i.e. within 24 hours) only applies for booking classes G, A, W, S, T, L and K. If you are on a Flex fare, your regular booking window should apply. Repeating what I stated in my previous post, the only thing that is special about ACV bookings is that SE100's and E75's have an additional benefit over other elites where they can upgrade from Tango fares (since you're not on a Tango fare, the associated requirements should not apply).

Please report back about when you're actually able to request your upgrade.

If it's a flex fare, you can do it at 5 days out as an E50. The check-in window for Tango fares doesn't apply to the OP as that's for E75/SE only.

What booking class is your ticket booked in?

Sorry to rehash an old thread, but is it possible for SE100K to upgrade tango fares to sun destinations NOT booked through Air Canada Vacations? Ie: directly on the AC website.

Why not?

YYZ-CUN

pgrade to Business Class:
Fare NameBooking classNumber of eUpgrade Credits required to upgrade to Business Class (per passenger) Upgrade request
Premium Economy (O)2 Anytime
Premium Economy (E, N)10 Within 14 days
Latitude (B, Y)2 Anytime
Flex (H, M, U)5 Within 14 days
Flex (Q, V)10 Within 14 days
Tango (A, F, G, K, L, S, T, W)15 Within 1 day

Who cares where he bought the ticket, if it has an AC PNR, its booked into one of those fare classes why would the system refuse it?

This was my thought, but why would they specifically say ACV on the AC website.

Air Canada Vacations (Tango booking classes)*
However on the eUpgrade website it just says

Tango (A, F, G, K, L, S, T, W)15 Within 1 day
with no mention of ACV.

So I'm assuming that it should work, just questioning whether I really want to leave the request until checkin to save the $160 difference to Flex.

I am note sure AC IT is advanced enough to distinguished between ACV or AC bookings; at the end of the day it is an AC ticket, AC tango fare on AC metal.

I think this whole ACV thing is more marketing than anything else.

Hmm...AC might care and that's how I read the website:

"* For Air Canada Vacations bookings in Tango booking classes, eUpgrades may only be requested on eligible flights between Canada and a Sun destination within the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America. Certain flights departing Cuba may be excluded."

The eUp window is at check-in.

Having said that, you're right to ask "why not?" Upon reflection, an early check-in with the help of a friendly concierge may do the trick.

Chovaz: is this hypothetical, or will you try to do this?
