Quick clarification q: according to the Wiki, by mid-May the YYZ-PVG route should have a refurbished 77W with the 787 J seat. I'm looking at flying PVG-YYZ in J in early August and the seatmap shows a 77W with the Classic Pod. Does this mean I won't be getting the new J, or has the seatmap just not been updated?

Yup, barring any last minute substitutions (which I think they should all be done by August, so it shouldn't be a problem, unless a different aircraft like the 763 or 788 is used).

It seems like until mid May, all of the 77L seat maps still show the old configuration. I guess in the meantime, the refurbed flights will just have empty middle seats?
I'm hoping that my YYZ-YVR flight in March will be in the new configuration...

With 3/6 77Ls done/being converted thus far, I expect AC will soon dedicate certain routes to 3-class 77Ls before May and sell them as such (just like they've done with the 77Ws). Looking at YYZ-HKG fin history, it could be the first.

I may have missed the answer upthread somewhere...
If an itinerary was booked months prior to a refurb (i.e. according to old seating plan), do preferred seat selections/purchases automatically move to the PY cabin with the refurb?
Just wondering because I saw a lot of flyers getting new passes at the gate today on the MUC-YYZ flight.
Thanks.

I thought I would drop a mini-review here.
Just in transit on 34 from SYD now back to YYZ on Fin 702.
Overall, my review would be mixed.
The good
IFE and the screen are great
Nice to change the firmness of the mattress
The extra storage and counter space is great (easy to put my laptop and eat at the same time) plus I don't risk losing any fingers when closing the tray.
I got a decent sleep out of it, once I got it the way I needed it (did not go fully lie-flat but then again, I didn't with the old pods, either)
Double Espresso - Excellent !
The rest:
What I personally thought the best part of the 777 was the mid-galley J setup. Drinks, food, always a FA there if you needed something. It became the meeting place of sorts, especially on a 15 hour flight, it was always a nice touch. I have had the pleasure of meeting some very interesting people in that galley over the years. Now, that is gone and in its place is a very sad trolley of fruit and snacks. You can still get food and what not but that area now feels like a dead zone, which is a real shame.
As mentioned before, the seats feel more narrow. I have flown the 787 in J and I never really had that feeling before, with these, felt it the second I got on.
Also, the isles are more narrow as well due to the size of the pods.
I also preferred the angle looking out, rather than looking in on the new pods.
I was in the front, rather than mid J cabin and it felt..smaller. The old pods had a more open feel, since these are bigger it just feels more congested.
The 'airbag' in the seat belt is huge and is almost impossible to get 'out of the way'
Other musings:
The mid J cabin had this plastic bulge at the front in which the moonlighting reflected off that. Gave it a nice touch, especially when Y and J had different moonlighting. The bulge is gone.
J lavs have new wallpaper and possibly a new toilet but other than that, they are the same. One would assume they are more built in than the Y lavs, which seemed brand new.
Last, but not least. My pod was / is surprisingly dirty! It looks like some spilt liquid beside the screen (not cleaned) and in the crevasses, a good amount of tiny crumbs and other dirt. Pod wasn't cleaned in SYD or YVR. Here's hoping it gets cleaned in YYZ before it turns around again.
and last but not least....everything changes, as it were.

I saw a 777 J cabin seat map the other day where the window seats in row 8 are missing but all other seats are in place.
I believe this is different from the seat map for the refurbed 777 where the window seats in row 8 are missing as well but the center seats in row 7 are moved to the window side.
Does anyone know what kind of seat map it is?
