Why shouldn't it be happening? What sort of an attachment can one have to an airline??? And not even a good airline at that!

Why would one choose a mode of transport solely based on loyalty?

unable to request eupgrade online

ugh. Despite the info that says AC will keep the fare class as Flex, the system doesn't know that. So I have just learned from calling AC that I will have to call exactly 5 * 24 hours before my flight to request an upgrade on a Flex W fare on AC33 that was Flex yesterday but is Tango today.

TelFunku Sep 24, 2013 10:52 am

Wow. They just don't quit.

My biggest concern is that I have LH codeshares booked into AC's S class. I'm pretty sure I'll have to fight through a lot of "Oh, it's not our flight number" bull#@!it to get it upgraded to V.

Now have to decide between UA, TK or BA for next year.

I think that is the whole idea.

Why else would you issue a press relaese praising the Expansion of Tango booking classes when you really mean the Elimination of Benefits for what used to be Flex booking classes:confused::confused:

Unsure how to respond to these questions. What do you think the point of any loyalty program is exactly?

Wow, I am speechless. Air Canada keeps firing all their loyal customers. It seems they just want two types of customers: backpackers traveling to Europe on a shoestring budget and people willing to pay for J. I don't know if AC realizes that those backpackers have no idea what airline they are flying so they would switch to a different carrier for a 20 dollar difference. I guess this model has worked as their planes seem pretty full lately (not sure about the actual revenue on those flights though). It seems next year if you have the money and you are travelling solo it would be super easy to upgrade with these policies:

1. Even more expensive flex fare
2. 500 - 750 $ upgrade fee (unless SE)
3. 14 - 17 upgrade credits
4. No nominees (unless SE)

I think AC woke up one day and said we need to get rid of 80% of our top tier customers.

That being said, you could have titled this thread "How to push loyal AC customers even further to other carriers".

I wasn't referring to you. You've never gloated over how the enhancements are good for you while being to the detriment of the majority. If anything, you've always shown some empathy for those affected.

This is Altitude Qualifying Dollars, without being quite that obvious.

Start flying international routes and you'll see a much larger delta between Tango and Flex.

If they increase the AC metal requirement, then it's minimum spend. This way, someone can still technically just put in their 10,000 AQM/5 segments, and fly United the rest of the year.

We are willing to pay for J and do it weekly. What we won't pay for is over-inflated J pricing while simultaneously getting the shaft in the FF program.

I suggest they are actually alienating every passenger type except once a year leisure travelers looking for bottom fares and are carrier/alliance agnostic.

I made a change to an AE reservation last night, and was ecstatic that as SE, the first one was free. Then it dawned on me, that if I was a UA 1K, not only do I get unlimited free changes, free cancellations, no carrier admin fees, free same day changes etc.

AC still does have concierge and reduced IKK, but each year that goes by IKK seems harder to use.

RatherBeInYOW Sep 24, 2013 11:50 am

Bahahahahaha.

Nice that they pulled that with no advance warning and no actual notice to Altitude members.

Looking at YOW-FRA-X next month (when I'll probably end up flying...) they're still only offering Flex, but it is only a matter of time before that gets screwed over too, so not only is J a $500 co-pay for a chance to play eUp aerolotto but I need to pay a premium fare just for a chance to pay $500 to play eUp aerolotto.

Or I could fly UA for less money, get 100% AQMs and free E+.

Wow, what a choice AC! Clearly informed elites will stick with you after all of these enhancements.

hydrogen Sep 24, 2013 11:56 am

So I am guessing that the price of the booking classes won't change, making Flex fares even more costly, correct?

It is important to watch this. The last time that AC did this, we were not able to upgrade our flights as AC had downgraded us from Tango Plus to Tango. It got straightened out re the miles but we were already home and had been unable to use our eupgrades for that return flight. What a mess!!
