Air Canada files application to reduce flight attendants
http://business.financialpost.com/20...ht-attendants/
Air Canada has filed an application with Transport Canada to reduce the number of flight attendants required on its narrow-body aircraft, similar to an exemption its rival, WestJet Airlines Ltd., received earlier this month.
The country’s largest carrier argues the move would bring the amount of flight attendants required on its North American narrow-body flights in line with international standards, and that it did not expect it would result in any layoffs. The move would see the number of flight attendants required on its North American Airbus and Embraer narrow-body flights fall to one per 50 passengers instead of one per 40 passengers currently.

A foregone conclusion after WS won a TC exemption earlier in the month.

Just great. The 3 FAs on a 319 are already rushed on shorter routes, and now we get to look forward to the same level of disservice on 320s, too.

TC looks at the issue from a safety perspective, not from a customer service one.
This is another example of the favouritism to WestJet Months later AC will get the same treatment, but only after being placed at a competitive disadvantage in the interim.
TC just does not understand the business.

I would still think there would need to be 3 FAs on a 319. With 132PAX in Y and 14 in J that means 146 total = three. Just means the SD is going to need to help in Y instead of relaxing in the galley between service.

I wasn't suggesting there'd be fewer FAs on a 319. I was saying that we'll have the same number of FAs on a 320 as a 319, and the 3 on a 319 are already too few on shorter routes. Imagine what it'll be like on a bigger plane.
