Delayed Baggage On Return Flight

Flew back from SFO-YYZ yesterday evening and baggage didn't make.

I'm based out of YYZ (and an SE).

27 hours later... baggage still not delivered.

T+8 hours, called baggage line: "Your baggage arrived at YYZ, should arrive at your home today." (Does WorldTracer provide the phone agents?)

T+27 hours: "Should be delivered tomorrow"

Waiting for baggage now.

Entire wardrobe (OK, I don't have a big wardrobe) was in baggage. AC: "we don't provide any compensation for return flights where you have a permanent home"

AMEX Corporate Card (thinking I'm in luck): We don't provide any compensation for delayed baggage on flights back to origin.

What's an entitled SE to do? Definitely not feeling special. :-)

Anyone else face this situation.

Forgot to mention... this was the flight that I re-qualified for SE and crossed 100K.

I thought you would get compensated if they "lost" your bags. You don't get anything for delayed baggage even though it's been over 27 hours.

Unfortunately that is the policy with all airlines and insurances (afaik). If your bag is delayed to the city you live in you get no compensation. Youre only entitled to compensation if the bag is permanently lost.

Thanks! Thought that might be the case.

Delays on return flights can be a pain when you are flying out again in a day or two. Once I had to spend $200 to duplicate presentation equipment that was in my dh's bag because he was flying out the next day and the bag wouldn't return home in time. As for finding suitable clothing for the second trip, that was tough too, since his travel wardrobe (dries overnight when hand washed), toiletry kit, plus raincoat and overshoes were all in the suitcase. Oh, and THE SUITCASE was missing as well (luckily, I wasn't traveling with him so he took mine.)

Sure, most of the time a delayed bag on a return trip isn't a big deal, but sometimes it is.

I am in the exact same dispute with AC. The first leg was on LH, who failed to put the bag on the plane and AC lied to me for three days that they knew where it was but wouldn't tell me. Then it turned up on the porch. I had packed business wardrobe that I needed during on that third day, and they have refused to compensate for what I had to buy as a result. They did not cite a policy about home airport. Instead, they claimed there were "too many variables" and they try but don't promise that bags will arrive with the passenger. What? I've rejected their rejection on the basis that there were no variables at all. The bag did not get lost at the connecting airport on my flight. It was routed three days after I flew via a different connection. I checked in 3 hours early. The originating airport was small enough that there is no reason the bag couldn't have been loaded other than "oops I forgot". And to make matters worse, AC agents were evasive and dishonest in the process of trying to get information from them about whether I could expect my business wardrobe before my next trip. I didn't want to go shopping but I had no choice by the third day. I don't know why AC doesn't get in my corner and support their loyal customer, and recover the compensation from LH. So far I am still in the slow-moving complaint mechanism, but I've got nothing but time to keep complaining.
