How does AC get away with stuff?

Prices changes are not just for seat sale dates. ! I have been westling with dates for a UK trip for a couple of weeks. Almost all dates Mid April thro early May have been on offer for under $1200 for YKA/LHR with travel options via YCG or YVR. I last checked on Tuesday a.m. when I finalized dates / route etc. Today (Wednesday) I go in to get the tickets processed only to find that EVERY day in the period I have been checking has been increased by a whopping 41% now the "best" fare is increased by $400. Do these increases have any relationship to the seat sales - who knows. I do know that there were (and still are) lots of availaiable seats in J and Y now thro early May when the cheapest seats go from last Tuesdays $1200 to todays near $1600 to nearly $2400 on May 5.
There will of course be those who say I should have booked when the prices were on offer - I know that but was waiting for certainty re the looming petrol tanker drivers strike in the UK.

A girlfriend is heading to Boston on biz and thought I'd tag along and join her on her flight from the Island Airport - YTZ. Base fare $1,027 each way pre-tax.

Depends on how last minute you book your ticket. It could be simply all the lower fare bucket were sold out. There is nothing wrong with that.

Last year for example while traveling in Peru, it appeared that I would not get on our flight due to frequent cargo-related load restrictions. On the day of departure, I was able to purchase a ticket on line at a cost of $374.00 all in with 100% AP miles. Go figure!
