Ticket changes and refunds ?????

I just purchased my ticket YVR-LHR at the downtown vancouver tickets office.

The ticket was booked in V Class and the upgrade confirmed. All fine...

The agent told me that the ticket is non- refundable....fine....however if i cancel the ticket i can only use it against a higher fare class, IE. H class...

Why !?.

Why not another V Class....

Can someone help me....am i doing something wrong.....

I was also told the change fee is $200.00.

What is happening !!..?

The only reason i am concerned is that there is a high chance the trip may change..

Thanks Guys..and Girls..

Sure you are free to change but you will not get any fund back... so it's "not refundable".

So you can pay $145 + GST to change it. This is how you do it. If you are sure you need a new date/flight, then call and change it on the phone, they will charge you the fare difference (there are different fares within same group such as V or L) PLUS this $145.

If you don't have any new plan and just want to cancel the trip. Then call to cancel the reservation, your ticket is usually good for 1 year. Any time during this year you will apply the value of this ticket - $145 to buy a new ticket.

Any travel agent can accept your unused ticket for credit but it might take them a few days to sort it out first. Some will just deny accepting because of the paperwork troubles involved.

You also have to make changes within the fare rules limitations (advance booking etc. before travel begins)

I am aware of these rules....

The point was the agent cleary said, and i asked twice...that i have to buy a higher fare ie...from a V to H, i cant go V to another V...

And also the change fee is $200 + GST

I have never heard of this before.....

She says its the international rules !! what ever they are!

Well... you know better.

Air Canada employees are well known to give misleading information due to lack of proper training.

There are a few good ones though... some participate on this board.

The best way is to pull out the fare rule for that specific fare from an online reservation agency such as Expedia.

But I still think she gave you misleading information.

I just spoke with the SE desk, the agent got the bit wrong about the higher class of ticket, they confrimed i can use against anything...

But the worrying bit is that the change fee has gone to $200 for international changes.
I confirmed this on the expedia site.
see below.!

PENALTIES - CANCEL-NON REF
OUTBOUND CHANGE-NO CHANGE TO RES BEFORE/AFTER
DEPART
INBOUND CHANGE-200.00 CAD BEFORE/AFTER DEPART
FOR ALL CONDITIONS SEE TEXT RULE

Ummmm, is this something that has been around for a while or is this something else sneaked in ??

You may have to go to the H if it is now a 7 day advance booking situation and the V fare would not apply (if it was a 14 day advance),e.g. and you want to leave next week. Is that how she was calculating or did you not give her any dates to work with as an example?

I believe all H fares to LHR from Canada to LHR also requires 7 days advance purchase. It is not until you get up to the B fare which does not have the 7 days advance purchase requirement.

B fares have a $200 cancellation fee.

but V are $150 for change (no cancellation refund allowed).

Q fares may be $150 US ($200 CAD or $225 CAD?) UA is $200 CAD for these fares.

Guess AC is just following the US lead again
