help determining fare class

Hi, I am looking to book a flight via Air Miles on Air Canada:

AC 63
Air Canada 8:30AM
Toronto (YYZ) 10:37AMVancouver (YVR) 5h 07m

AC 3
Air Canada 1:55PM
Vancouver (YVR) 5:25PM (Jan 22)
Tokyo (NRT) 10h 30m

Airmiles has a 40% off deal but it expires today, and their customer call center is closed.

Does anyone know if I book an Air Canada flight via Airmiles, which fare class it would be? so I can determine if I will get 100% or 25% status miles and if I can use an upgrade cert?

Thanks
Hsolo

it really depends what they book you into. International Tango earns 100% miles.

re:

It doesn't say anything else on the screen and I am afraid to book it without confirming the fare class, and their call center is closed until Tuesday.

Anyone know what the cancelation policy is for Air Miles bookings? I don't want to waste the miles if its 25% status

it really depends whether they book you into Tango or Tango Plus. AM will book the lowest booking class as possible to reduce its cost.

if its Tango plus then you are in luck. if tango then your stuck with 25% miles within north america, but 100% miles travelling internationally. Hate to say tango will not get you a cert upgrade

re:

Thanks, the upgrade is not a huge deal, but I don't want to fly all the way there and only get 25% status, especally now that I am back to 0

Per Andrew in this thread:

Do Airmiles Tickets Earn Status Miles?

And per SH in the other thread I posted, AM tix are not supposed to earn any miles, regardless of the class of booking. But there is some hope. So it would at the end of the day depend on what they book you in as GHT pointed out.

I thought AM books into X class...no miles, no upgrade certs accepted.

However, there have been reports of AM passengers being offered LMUs

Just to confirm what Andrew and others have posted. You are not supposed to get Aeroplan miles on an Air Miles flight, but sometimes it happens. Yes, you can add your AP number to the booking,; it won't matter in the end. My wife did four segments in December using Air Miles and ended up with 0 Aeroplan miles for her efforts. I was beside her in a paid seat and earned 2,000. There are some relevant perks though -- Air Miles lets you pick your seat in advance, at least.

Having said all of that, a few years ago I earned AP miles on a long Air Miles flight -- FRA-YYC if I remember correctly. Not sure now if they were status or not. Air Miles flights before and after that did not bring me AP miles. I suspected that it was a one-time glitch, and certainly Andrew's comments since then have confirmed that.

Well that sucks, I don't see why airmiles are treated different then Avion or TD points, Airmiles must buy the seats somehow from Air Canada, and if being bought for an Aeroplan member then you should be able to earn miles as you are sitting in that seat the same as Avion.

Aeroplan books into X class, but Air Miles is a third party reward provider, so it is usually a purchased revenue ticket.
