What is your Success Rate with SSWU ?

Hi Everyone, I am a new elite member and have my first pair of SSWU and I plan on using them prior to March 1, 2011. I intend on taking my spouse (non status) to Europe or S America on a Tango Plus Fare and use the SSWU to upgrade. I know there is no guarantee that I will get the upgrade for both of us. What is your success rate for similar situations?

Some have much more experience than me here, but for the past 5 years I have had 100% success with my SSWU using T+, most of them on YUL-CDG... and a few on YYZ-SYD...

100% including:

YYZ-HKG-YYZ, 3 times
YYZ-NRT-YYZ, 1 time
YYZ-NRT, 1 time
YYZ-ZRH, 1 time
YYZ-LHR-YYZ, 1 time
PVG-YYZ, 1 time

It even surprises me how fortunate I have been at Aerolotto.

So far 100% with certs, (LHR-YUL and YOW-LHR) but the sample number is limited to just those two occasions, so probably not very representative! (only made E last October). I am crossing the fingers for YUL-YYZ-ZRH Wednesday (wait-listed right now)...

I've had 100% success with SSWU also on T+ fares for 2010.

YVR-HKG x 2
HKG-YVR x 1
PVG-YVR x 1

100%

YYZ-LHR x 4 (SWU in this case, upgraded r/t with companion)
YVR-SYD x 2

Day of the week is a huge factor, if possible avoid the weekend and try for Tuesday/Wednesday travel.

This is all good feedback. Sounds like people have a lot of success when flying on their own. Does the success rate change when you're trying to book for two people and only one is elite?

SA is a very hard route to u/g on so don't be suprised if you don't clear the u/g. Good luck!

Yes -- upgrades are in the order of status, so your companion would be at the back of the line. But it's not a huge difference, I think.

"South America" is a very hard route? It depends on where in South America -- I have been upgraded on YYZ-LIM-YYZ, for example. EZE and GRU will be more difficult, SCL might be somewhere in between.

2 out of 3 for me.........all on YYZ-FRA

Made Elite back in June, used up both my SSWU this Dec.
Last time from YYZ-FRA on Dec 23rd, surprised me a bit, thought there would be more people flying that day, u/g had cleared when requested online 4 days before.

Same success rate when travelling (and upgrading) with Mrs. R&F (YUL-CDG and YYZ-SYD).
