Need some help!

I'm currently in Montreal returning to YYZ on Sept.13 on AC 425 at 7pm. I was originally booked on the flight out at noon but due to some meeting changes I called my TA to change me to a later flight. She said she would do a straight exchange and there would be no charge unless AC came back and debited her. This was several weeks ago keep in mind. When I went to check-in this evening, it told me I was unable to check-in at this time. So I called AC and they tell me the exchange was never done and they want $400 in fare difference because it's no longer a 21 day advance booking. They tell me I have a confirmed seat but may be charged the difference when I check-in. AC said they could exchange the ticket but would charge me the $50 change fee plus the fare difference. Seeing as it's 12 am EST currently I am not able to get through to my TA. Any words of wisdom? I am booked into an L fare on a T+ ticket. I have emailed my TA and left a voicemail for her to call me first thing in the morning.

I don't have a workaround for you, but if the conversation with your TA was documented and the exchange was not performed as requested, I'd make the TA eat any extra cost if you really need to get out at 7 pm.

Do a same-day flight change if you need to, it will only costs you $75 flat, instead of $50 + $400. I believe you can do it anytime starting now (since it's past midnight in EST)

Sameday Change?

Can't you just do a sameday change for $75, now that it is the day of departure?

Review the fare rules and the general conditions of carriage Departing Flight Montreal (YUL) To Toronto (YYZ) - Tango Plus
Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Change fee per direction, per passenger, is $50 CAD plus applicable taxes and any additional fare difference.
Airport same-day changes (subject to availability) are permitted at a flat fee of $75 CAD/USD per direction, per passenger. Same-day flights only.
Changes can be made up to 2 hours prior to departure. Cancellations can be made up to 45 minutes prior to departure. Provided the original booking is cancelled prior to the original flight departure, the value of unused ticket can be applied within a one year period from date of issue of the original tickets to the value of a new ticket subject to a change fee per direction, per passenger, plus applicable taxes and any additional fare difference, subject to availability and advance purchase requirements. The new outbound travel date must commence within a one year period from the original date of ticket issuance. If the fare for the new journey is lower, any residual amount will be forfeited.
Flights can only be used in sequence from the place of departure specified on the itinerary.
Customers who no-show their flight will forfeit the fare paid.
Complimentary standard seat selection is available on Air Canada and Jazz (subject to availability).
Same-day standby is not permitted, except for passengers travelling on a flight between Toronto and Montreal, or Toronto and Ottawa (connecting flights excluded).
Earn 100% Air Canada Status Miles
Read complete fare rules applicable to this fare.

The only issue is that the 7pm flight only has Lattiude fare class available for sale so it must be getting pretty full so you might want to do this sooner rather than later or take a later flight. Someone who has KVS might be able to give you exact info.

Hope it works out!!

T+ fare allows same day changes for flat $75 with no additional charges for fare difference.

Agreed that that is the right thing to do; however, not sure what state the TA left your ticket in. If they have moved you off your original flight, but no paid the fare difference then you don't actually have a flight to do a same day change against.

As the TA screwed up, they should eat the cost of the original mistake. Final problem is that same day changes can only be done at the airport or online and the online system doesn't normally give you later flights. Unless you can go to the airport or are an SE that can call the concierge you'd only be able to do the change when you got to the airport (potentially after your original flight).

Thank you all for your input. After I hung up with AC I sent a scathing email to my TA and then called AC back and claimed ignorance. The second agent was very nice and transferred me to web support which did a straight exchange and over rid the change fee and the fare difference! Checked in online, all seems good.

Keep in mind too that AC's Rapidair service between (YYZ-YUL-YOW triangle) u can standby for a same-day earlier flight for free.... my way is to buy the last day's trip (often lower in cost) and do a standby to the trip i wanted.

Just a little clarification please - if you book the 00:30 flight on say October 2, can you standby for the late flights on October 1?
TIA

jmolony, i'm almost positive it has to be "same-day" standby, so in your case, you would not be able to do that.
