Can you see Mt. Kilimanjaro from Arusha?

I just need to be close enough to take a pic.

I don't think so. Maybe from Moshi which is closer.

You can definitely see it from Amboseli National Park. I also saw it on my British Airways flight out of DAR.

Nope. You'd have to settle for Mount Meru, which is close to Arusha.

About 73 km in a straight line. Kilimanjaro lies between the two, about 44 km from Amboseli and 30 from Moshi.

Arusha is over 82 km from Kilimanjaro, in a west-southwesterly direction. The lower slopes of Mount Meru lie between the two, close to Arusha.

The peaks of both Meru and Kilimanjaro are often shrouded in cloud.

Your tour operator may be right in theory, but I guess you would need a sizeable portion of luck, and even that won't get you a halfway decent photo.

The view from Moshi/JRO can be OK.

Sorry to bump an old thread. I did spend one night in Arusha and left early the next morning but the mountain was covered. I might be in the area again and am exploring ways to see the mountain. There is an ET flight from ADD to ZNZ that goes via JRO in the afternoon. Would flying into JRO help? There is also the option to fly NBO to DAR/ZNZ.

Is there a cheap way to go from NBO to Moshi via Rongai border crossing and Amboseli rather than the usual Namanga border?

Is there any chance of seeing it from the new NBO Mombasa train?
