Sudan | Self-guided
Starting from Khartoum, how easy would it be to do a self-guided tour via bush taxi or bus of the various pyramids such as Meroe and up over to Barkal? It looks like you can fly from Merowe Airport, by Barkal pyrmaids, back to Khartoum? I'm also not sure if there are places to stay near these sites? I came across Meroe tented camp and it actually looks pretty decent...
I know for Darfur you can fly to Al Fashir, so I'm really only curious about the logistics above.
Any and all insight is much appreciated!

I did Meroe as a day trip from Khartoum - didn't have much time. There are bush taxis everywhere, provided they have fuel. Another issue is the checkpoints and the paperwork you'd need to travel across them. I'm not sure how you'd go about getting it.
Everything I did was organized through Acropole Hotel. Three Greek brothers run the place and they can fill you in on the situation. Very nice place to stay a few nights as well.
