Game of Thrones Editor Killed in Lion Attack in South Africa

You may have seen this story going around:

Game Of Thrones editor killed in lion attack

It's a sad story though of what they're saying is true, her death may have been preventable. What makes it very sad for me is, I knew her. Her Mother and my Mother were friends when we were children and we had many play dates together. She went to Catholic schools after the 5th Grade so I haven't seen her since 1996 or so which made this come as a complete shock to me when I saw the news today

A tragedy, and very sad to see.

Basic prudence suggests an open window isn't a good idea when the lion is literally only 4 feet away. You have ZERO chance of reacting in any way since the lion can cover that distance easily in a single leap.

I especially wouldn't make any moves like taking pictures....

I mean, I wouldn't do anything to startle a house cat given that kind of distance. Even a house cat can put a claw or a fang into your face at that distance...

As someone who has been attacked (not charged) by a wild leopard, I can assure you that not even 40 feet will give you any time whatsoever to react. The only thing that saved me was that I was on the other side of a game fence, which the leopard hit so hard that it fell to the ground reeling, and with a bloody nose. I was down on my haunches when the leopard hurtled into that fence 10 cm from my face. Interesting experience.
