A friendly reminder that Flyertalk is not a marketplace, and nothing may be offered (or solicited) for sale or barter within the general forums - which includes offering vouchers for free. For those with sufficient posts and length of membership, trading/exchange is allowed solely within Coupon Connection, and then only in accordance with the specific rules of that forum.

Thanks for your co-operation.
A3 provides all Gold members with four vouchers for upgrade from Economy to Business. Silver members get two upgrade vouchers.

Criteria
  • You must be travelling on A3 or OA metal - codeshares are not included.
  • The original ticket must be issued on either A3 (390) or OA (050) ticket stock.
  • Only revenue (paid) tickets, in fare classes other than U, P & T on a GoLight fare basis, can be upgraded, but not redemption tickets.
  • All flights on the ticket must be on A3 or OA metal.
  • There must be award availability in I-class for the upgrades to clear. You can check this by logging in to M&B then going to https://en.aegeanair.com/milesandbon...t/spend-miles/ The results page will initially be a calendar. To see Business availability, you have to click through to the next step. (You can also use a free or paid tool such as ANA website, UA website (looking for saver award space), Aeroplan, AwardNexus or ExpertFlyer to check for availability.)
  • One coupon per person per journey leg is required - so, for example, TXL-ATH-SKG and return via the same route would require four coupons per person.
  • Anyone can be upgraded using the coupons - you do not have to be travelling on the same booking or even the same plane.

Procedure
  • Call A3 to request the upgrade. The phone numbers are listed at https://aegeanairlines.custhelp.com/ (most of them should go to the same call centre in Greece).
  • If successful, a new ticket will be issued (with a new number). The PNR will remain unchanged.
  • You are liable for any extra taxes applicable to Business Class (e.g. APD from the UK). Sometimes this gets charged, sometimes it doesn't - if it's due and you're not charged because the agent forgets, you've just been lucky.
  • If there's no immediate I-class availability, you can ask to be waitlisted for upgrade. The ability to waitlist was reported to have been removed in August 2016, but was again possible in September. Check with the agent - option available on May 2018.
    • in case you requested to be waitlisted for upgrade and want to check if the customer care agent made the changes on your booking you can check the reservation on checkmytrip.com (click here), the leg you requested the upgrade will be shown here as ”Waitlisted”.
  • If you wish to upgrade one segment of a multi-segment trip (e.g. XXX-ATH-YYY) and there is availability on the leg you wish to upgrade, you may still have to be waitlisted due to married segment issues. The process of clearing the waitlist is somewhat confusing and may result in frustration due to the availability seeming to disappear but in reality, this may mean that the segments have been "unmarried" and the availability has been allocated to your reservation. See post 2272 and the update in post 2294 for more details.

Benefits
  • No matter what the fare basis of the original ticket, you receive full Business Class benefits after upgrade.
  • This includes lounge access (useful if you're upgrading someone other than yourself who has no status, or if you've run out of Silver lounge vouchers) and full baggage allowance (it applies for first leg as well, in case you are upgraded only on the 2nd leg of your trip - confirmed on the etix).
  • Because the ticket books as a redemption, the free car hire is not included.

Mileage/segment earning
  • You will earn at the underlying rate of your purchased ticket in economy, not at a business class rate. Because status miles are awarded, this also counts as a segment for re-qualification purposes.
  • The flights may credit automatically, but may take longer to credit than tickets that have not been changed. They may also credit as 0 miles, and later change to the correct rate. If the flights have not credited properly after a few weeks then calling A3 will rectify this rapidly.

Expiry
  • The vouchers expire at the end of your membership year - they do not carry over, even if status is retained. A new set is issued every year.
  • It is the date when you use the voucher that matters. It can upgrade a flight that takes place after expiry as long as you apply the voucher before.
  • On upgrade from Silver to Gold, any remaining Silver upgrade coupons expire, but they are replaced by four Gold ones which expire at the end of the Gold membership year.

BEWARE
  • Once you have upgraded your seat, your ticket will be reissued. Suddenly, this ticket may be VERY expensive to change. If, for instance, you later decide to travel on a different date, you will probably be required to rebook into Business, even if Economy was available for new bookings. A3 will charge you the difference from your original Economy fare to a NEW Business fare. Plus fees, taxes and whatnot. Update 18/08/2021: this appears to no longer be the case, as an upgraded ticket was changed and the underlying Economy fare was used for the upgraded segments. The coupon was "removed" from the old dates and "reapplied" to the new dates.
  • Coupons will not be returned/reinstated. Once a coupon is applied, it is gone for good (the T&Cs printed on the coupons allow for date and time changes, but not route changes).
  • If you want to provide your coupons to upgrade a friend's travel, it is advisable to call in yourself. Your friend can call in if they know your name, birthdate, M&B-number and the email address associated with your account. That means: Anyone who knows these particulars can use your coupons without your knowledge. They do NOT need the coupon numbers.
  • Crediting upgraded segments to another program will likely fail, as it will be reported as I-class. It may be possible to retro-claim the miles.

I even knew somebody who, because they had to go home due to a family illness, just booked a new ticket a week early and "threw away" their perfectly good Flex ticket because, quote: "Nah, airlines don't let you change your tickets without stupid high fees!". Of course, they were not impressed when they put in an insurance claim and the bulk of it was refused on the grounds they could have changed their original ticket and paid only about 50 Euro more.

But anyway, Aegean explain it all VERY clearly in my opinion - far better than some others, so people really only have themselves to blame.
(at those people, not you) Agreed that it's pretty clear and those uh, unfortunate folks (*cough* idiots *cough*) only have themselves to blame.

Not sure if this has been answered on this thread so feel free to tell me off if necessary. I did try searching but couldn't find anything.

So I just booked my "4 sectors". 2 are on an OA Dash-8 so no business class on them. When I rang up to upgrade, I was told that because I only want to (can!) upgrade 2 of the 4 flights, they can't confirm immediately and have to put in the request to M&B. I can see availability at the moment and am anxious that it will disappear before they get around to my request. Is this normal or was I being told rubbish? Just wondering whether it's worth ringing again or whether I'll get the same answer if I do. Any advice?

Thanks in advance!

OK, panic over! I had a phonecall just now to confirm the upgrades and to take the payment for the extra taxes. I should never have doubted A3's efficiency, as it always works out with them when they promise to do something and to ring you back.

Just wanted to add this info though so that there is a data point on this. If you're on an itinerary including an all-Y domestic leg and you want to upgrade the international leg, it needs to be requested with M&B rather than the agent being able to do it straight away while you're on the phone. As long as there's availability (which in my case I knew there was), they'll confirm the upgrade very quickly. Hope that helps if anyone else is searching for this info in the future.

Well I regularly upgrade itineraries which include an all Y OA domestic leg and have never had this problem. My take on it is that some agents simply can't process upgrades (for whatever reason) or can only do "simple" ones. I always call in "regular office hours" (although I'm not sure exactly when they are for A3) and make sure I select M&B from the automatic menu. I am only guessing, but I think this ensures I always get through to the actual M&B people, rather than just "regular" agents (if there is indeed such a distinction). I think the "standby list" that is often mentioned could be as simple as a note for the proper staff to sort it out later. As I say, I'm just guessing of course.

Yeah that's what I thought. It certainly sounded like she just needed someone who could do it "properly" to look at it. It was at about 21:00 ATH time last night when I rang so maybe I got a "normal" agent despite choosing the M&B option. She did assure me that this was the standard process but I had a sneaky suspicion it wasn't. All's well that ends well anyway and I was very impressed with how quickly she rang me back to confirm. I was going to ring back this afternoon if I hadn't heard anything though.

Obviously, A3's own website sucks, as the My Booking page is very basic and doesn't even show seat assignments. CheckMyTrip, while detailed, doesn't have any indication that an upgrade is pending (not that I expected it to).

Somewhere upthread the MyFlights app was mentioned to show that there'd be two line items for the waitlisted flight - one Economy with your original fare code and one Business with the "I" code. Mine only show the Economy.

Btw, ticket has already been reissued because of the two upgraded segments, and phone reps confirm that the others are waitlisted. Curiously, only one upgrade coupon has been pulled.

Thanks!
Well, it looks like something is wrong, because my waitlisted upgrade didn't clear automatically.

Thankfully, I've been checking and rechecking for "I" availability, and lo and behold, one of my waitlisted flights had one seat show up. Called and grabbed it. I guess the lesson is to babysit your trips if you want your upgrade to clear the waitlist!

I used my Silver status upgrade vouchers for LUX-ATH-KWI quite some time back, the flights only cost me €86.30 but then I soon discovered that to get from Bratislava to Luxembourg wasn't going to be as easy as I thought. Direct Luxair flights were pricing in at over €300 and other airlines wanted around €130. Then I found flights with Aegean PRG-ATH-LUX in S class for €119.99. Unfortunately, for the ATH-LUX leg there wasn't upgrade availability. I phoned up yesterday to get the PRG-ATH flight upgraded using 1 of my 4 Gold upgrade vouchers and the agent put me on the waitlist for the other flight (incidentally on MyFlights it displayed as: Flights status, Waitlisted). Although A3's website still showed no availability, someone called me back this afternoon to say that I'd been upgraded on that flight too. This is why I love Aegean!

My only dilemma now is do I say anything to the crew on the ATH-LUX flight?!

Are you sure an immediate turnaround in LUX will be possible within those 45 minutes (realistically: 30 min - gate closes 15 min before departure)?

Well not 100% sure, but I've been there and I know it's a modern, well set up and relatively small airport. I'll have my running shoes on, just in case!

Recently I booked a return ticket ATH-HER end of May/beginning of June. At that time there was plenty of availability in business and some I class spaces open as well.
When trying to ugrade it with coupons I was put on a waiting list. No voice since then, but now it seems business class dissapeared completely from ATH-HER route.
Does it mean they just canceled business product from this route?

I requested upgrade for such a mixed flight recently (LHR-ATH-AXD). I gave them a call late Friday night, they requested the upgrade with M&B, and called me back the next morning. During the call-back I was able to pay the extra 15.03€ for the LHR business taxes. All in all, it was a smooth process.

OT: I am not a fan of credit card payments over the phone (rather suspicious I would say). Aegean does not provide other ways to fulfil such payments..

That is true.

Effective May, only ATH-SKG and ATH-CFU(!) among domestic routes will have C class. So, ATH-HER, ATH-RHO, ATH-CHQ will be full Y

Oh! I have lots of colleagues in Med School charging their Monday and Friday flights in C to/from ATH to their grants from the Pharma Industry. They will now be sitting in the back with their patients and potential patients who will be bothering them with their booboos and ouchies. I like that!
