I usually use UA search engine for awards on direct routes in premium cabin to find out dates with availability, and then I compare with availability via A3.
You can use Lifemile's search engine, which will give you the number of seats available for the flight.

How so? At least it worked for me, booked in Oct through the online tool and flied just one week ago. I believe there is no direct *A flight between these two cities so that's why the tool proposes such a "crazy" routing.

Just made my first redemption.
FRA-JFK F (LH)
60k + 305.28€

I know, i know. It's only a 9 hour flight, but I needed a one-way ticket and always wanted to fly first (first time for me).
Was able to book it exactly 2 weeks in advance.
Actually that is the first award ticket I have ever purchased. Since I don't like to be so last minute, I'm happy that I don't have to keep thinking about it and checking availability for the next two weeks

I was able to see award space on these special routes as well, but the last time none of the dates I checked worked.

ET, TLV-ADD[nine-hour layover]-BKK[tech stop!]-HKG, C, 55K + €24

You know...I'm telling myself that this is why I became an aviation enthusiast, for slightly illogical trips like this.

I'm keen to see a bit of Addis during my layover (perhaps the Merkato + dinner?), I'll be on ET's new 737 MAX 8 and 787, and I'll have avoided Lufthansa and Swiss' taxes that were half the cost of a cash ticket in Y. Turkish were the obvious choice and yet don't fly to Hong Kong when I needed to travel, which is over a Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Excited! Thanks again to everyone in this forum for all your advice over the years.

Trying to ticket two different itineraries which don't show up on the A3 online award search tool. I reached out to the call center. I've been *Gold with A3 for years and for as long as I can remember I could give the agent two segments & they would sell it as a single ticket. Now, they are claiming that if the online search tool doesn't suggest it as a connecting point, it cannot be issued as a single ticket. I wanted to go BKK-CGK-HND. Same day, same class of service, under 24h. Not sure why they aren't willing to search segment by segment anymore. Same issue occurred with a ICN-SIN-BKK routing. First flight on SQ C departing in the afternoon. Next flight on the following morning as there are no midnight departures from SIN on TG C. Agent insisted that because it's not available online, it cannot be booked. This NEVER used to be an issue at all. As long as it was same class, under 24h connections, same region, and max 2 segments you'd be good. If true, this severely restricts the flexibility of A3 redemption IMO. Can agents only see what we can now? Are they not able to combine segments anymore, does everything have to match what online availability suggests?

Quick question. Anyone know why a USA domestic flight in economy one way with a legal connection (less than 4 hours) reprices to 25000 miles?
On the calendar, and when selecting a flight, it shows 12.5K miles, but once you click on "continue" to the traveller information page, it reprices to 25K miles. Non-stops dont get affected.
e.g. LAX-SFO-IAD.... a bummer.

Due to backtracking perhaps?

....
The connection isn't by any chance overnight, ie there is a date change between flights? Just guessing, but it seems something is triggering the booking engine to break it up and price it as two redemptions.

It might be this rule that (rightly or wrongly) kicks in and reprices your itinerary?

Policy for miles redemption with intermediate point/stopover:
-In case of same cabin class and one intermediate point that does not exceed the 24 hours, the required miles for redemption are calculated as one segment, provided that there is seat availability directly from the origin airport to the destination airport, regardless of the seat availability between the origin airport to the intermediate point and from the intermediate point to the destination airport.
I.e. the booking engine in the initial search just looks for available seats on each segment. When you go to booking, it actually validates this rule and decides that there are not availability on LAX-IAD directly, thus it changes the booking into two one-segment awards.

That seems like a very odd rule. Maybe it is mis-written and should say "provided that there is NOT seat availability directly". After all it would make perfect logical sense to say "you have to pay extra because you could have gone directly and chose not to". Allowing someone to make a connection ONLY if there is a direct flight available makes no sense. I'm not faulting you or anything, just commenting on the rule itself.
