Mercure Venezia Marghera

Name of the hotel: Hotel Mercure Venezia Marghera (Venice, Italy)

- What is your ALL status? Diamond

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay? Yes

The MGallery in Venice is still closed. This Mercure is in the Mestre area. If you want to go to Venice, bus N°6 stopping very close to the hotel is bringing you to Piazzale Roma in 20 min. The hotel was really deserted, which was very sad. I "saw" the room list at breakfast and there was around 25 rooms occupied.

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive ?

I booked room with double bed and received Privilege room.

- How are the rooms?

The room was large as you can see on the picture below and had a sofa bed. Bathrobe, slippers, nespresso machine, minibar with free soft drinks are part of the amenities. Everything looked very fresh and in very good shape (renovation is likely not too old). Only the green of the bathroom was truly horrible IMO,

- What was good and what was bad?

Good: : room, very friendly staff, zero noise (but the low occupancy surely helped)

Bad: : In the Veneto region, restaurants have reopened, but they close at 6 pm. Restaurants in hotels can remain open at night for hotel guests. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed on saturday night so you have to order food from outside which is far from being optimal (cold, no plate, etc). Fortunately, the restaurant was open the other night. Otherwise, nothing bad to report.

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge? : not applicable

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks : welcome drink was given spontaneously. No problem to have early checkin/late checkout with the low occupancy. Note that you cannot store a luggage at front desk (they are not allowed to touch bags because of Covid ). They ask you to leave them in the room as they wait one day before cleaning the room for the next guest, as per sanitary protocol. There is no housekeeping during the stay unless you request it.
There is a limited buffet for breakfast and no self-service : it is attended and you ask what you want.

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return? : value was great (60 EUR/night). Would I return ? possibly but if you go to Venice for tourism, it is certainly better to be on the island. However, if you are looking at a cheaper option, this is certainly a very good one as it is quite easy to reach Venice by bus.

this color must date from the time when this Mercury was still an Ibis Styles

That was exactly what I thought (well except for the planetary reference)
Perhaps the colour scheme appeals to little green men

Ibis Styles Warszawa City

- Name of the hotel:
Ibis Styles Warszawa City, Poland

- What is your ALL status?
Gold

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
YES

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
I booked the cheapest Standard Room with 1 Queen Bed.
I was given a corner room on the 12th (= top) floor. Probably a Standard Room with a Double Bed.

- How are the rooms?
The hotel opened about 3 years ago. The rooms are still in good shape.
The rooms with a queen bed are around 18 m2 and have a horrible bathroom (glass door/wall). The rooms with a double bed are slightly larger (from 22 m2) and have a traditional bathroom with a standard door/walls.

In my room, there was a small desk with a chair, an archchair with a coffee table, and a bench. Rooms come with a mini-kettle and a minibar.

- What was good and what was bad?
Good:

* Upgrade to a larger room, on the top floor
* Surprisingly friendly staff at the reception desk
* Rooms in good shape
* Breakfast included in the rate and delivered to your room as restaurants can't serve meals at the moment.
* Some restaurants in walking distance of the hotel - you can get a takeaway even during the pandemic
Bad:
* some minor details could be fixed, e.g. I'd add another armchair or a few shelves
* towels not fluffy enough

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge?
n/a

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks?
* Early check-in - around 12 o'clock (official check-in time is 3 p.m.)
* We didn't ask for late check-out, but I guess it would have been possible
* A welcome drink voucher for 2 people: you can get a bottle of beer, a glass of wine or a soft drink to your room (meals and drinks can only be consumed in your room during this stage of the covid pandemic)

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return?
I had a very good stay and I would be happy to return. I found this hotel better than Ibis Styles Warszawa Centrum (near the Vistula river), both in terms of the comfort of stay and the neighbourhood.
The rate was increadibly low (around 30 EUR for 1 night with in-room breakfast for 2). I don't think I will ever see it so low.
Before the pandemic, this hotel was a bit overpriced. In many cases, their rates were more expensive than the Novotel and the Mercure (but it included breakfast).

corner room on the top floor

Sofitel Obelisk, Dubai

- Name of the hotel:
Sofitel Obelisk

- What is your ALL status?
Platinum

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
I booked the cheapest Standard Room
I was given a very nicely appointed standard suite.

- How are the rooms?
The hotel is very new. The suite was very nice - divided into a living room with a four chair coffee table, sofa area with two armchairs, a bedroom with another armchair and a desk and a nice dressing / luggage area + of course the bathroom.

- What was good and what was bad?
Good:

* Upgrade to suite
* very nice lounge with tasty canapés and cocktails
* brand new
* beautiful building
* great pool area
* amazing sushi in the outsourced restaurant Taiko

Bad:
* brand new so some service aspects (waiters in the lounge) not polished
* some hitches with Internet which required IT support

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge?
Yes. Recommended once service is improved

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks?
* fruit platter and welcome letter
* I've forgotten if there was anything else

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return?
I stayed during high season and rates have gone down. I would love to go back in Autumn but I'm not sure I would visit right now.

Mövenpick Grand Al Bustan, Dubai

- Name of the hotel:
Mövenpick Grand Al Bustan

- What is your ALL status?
Platinum

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
No

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
I booked the cheapest Standard Room. Not sure there was any upgrade

- How are the rooms?
The hotel is old. The room is OK (dated) but there was weird dead space behind the armchairs. The bathroom is a bit too old for my liking.

- What was good and what was bad?
Good:

* decent snacks in the lounge

Bad:
* hotel is sold with lounge benefit although the upper management does not agree with what it means. During the time I stayed the lounge was arranged in a ground floor restaurant (I forget the name). Shockingly, only one drink allowed. Front desk couldn't budge, even after I mentioned I didn't get a welcome drink voucher. This is the first "lounge" ever that has this policy in place.

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge?
Sort of. See above.

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks?
Nothing.

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return?
It can be very cheap. I will never return due to the inflexible management.

Raffles Dubai

- Name of the hotel:
Raffles Dubai

- What is your ALL status?
Platinum

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes, so happy I stayed twice

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
I booked the cheapest Standard Room. Even standard rooms are very large. Not sure which room category was given.

- How are the rooms?
The rooms are immaculate. The desk area is comfortable for working at. The rooms have balconies with proper walls, which mean you can sit and work privately.
On the first stay I got a room facing the pool and the motorway. This is a bit too noisy to work at but great if you have earplugs and want to sunbathe
The second stay I got a room facing the "courtyard" / Sofitel Obelisk. This is very quiet but always in the shade.

- What was good and what was bad?
Good:

- Service is great - to a point where the temporary lounge waiter remembered my previous day orders
- room is great
- covid policies are great - sunbeds are desinfected between guests
- pool is very nice

Bad:
- not really bad but I'm hoping the real lounge would be reopened

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge?
Yes, in the temporary lobby bar area. I'd love to try the actual lounge next time

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks?
Yes, welcome drinks and extremely nice porter that escorted me to the Obelisk.

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return?
It's not cheap but it's not too expensive. Will definitely return soon.

Mövenpick Jumeirah Beach, Dubai

- Name of the hotel:
Mövenpick Jumeirah Beach

- What is your ALL status?
Platinum

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
I booked the cheapest Standard Room. I received a standard size corner room with a balcony facing the sea.

- How are the rooms?
Slightly dated, but comfortable. I was able to work in the room.

- What was good and what was bad?
Good:

- great lounge benefits, impeccable service
- great steak in the steak restaurant (can't remember the name). It's really hard to find well cooked beef in Dubai so I was extremely happy.
- good Indian à la carte food in the main restaurant (mainly buffet)
- there's an outsourced sports bar in the lobby (now temporarily closed I presume)

Bad:
- due to the high buildings around, the pool area is not very comfortable. The service wasn't up to par with the rest of the hotel, either

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge?
Yes. Excellent club lounge benefits in, I believe, a temporary area. Decent snacks, some cocktails, and a decent red wine (pretty rare in lounges!)

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks?
I believe I got a welcome drink, can't remember other perks

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return?
Because it's on the "wrong side" of the Walk (=no beach) it can be had for decent rates. It is much cheaper than e.g. Hilton The Walk, and much better.

The Canvas, Mgallery, Dubai

- Name of the hotel:
The Canvas Mgallery

- What is your ALL status?
Platinum

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
I booked the cheapest Standard Room. I received a suite.

- How are the rooms?
I only stayed a few hours here before a redeye flight, so I can't comment much on the room. The bathroom looked very nice but the room is dark because they close all the curtains. The reason seems to be the semi depressing view

- What was good and what was bad?
Good:

- good lounge benefits in the outdoors pool deck area
- some sort of bar area in the basement that allows room charge and redeeming welcome drink coupon

Bad:
- location is a bit bland

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge?
Yes. It was a tad cold in January on the top floor (floor 5?) but luckily most tables had heating lamps.

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks?
Yes.

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return?
Currently it's extremely cheap. For a short stay, it's decently close to the airport so why not.

Novotel World Trade Centre Dubai

- Name of the hotel:
Novotel World Trade Centre Dubai

- What is your ALL status?
Platinum

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
It was ok

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
I booked the cheapest Standard Room. I received a junior suite

- How are the rooms?
The room is very Novotel with beige and bright colours.

- What was good and what was bad?
Good:

- friendly staff
- rooms was fine

Bad:
- I had stayed in a bit too a nice hotel the night before so the contrast was too strong. Clearly my own fault and not the hotel's.

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge?
No lounge.

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks?
I think so. The adjacent bar was empty, though.

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return?
If I ever needed to be in the area, why not.
