Personally I was rather irritated by the "as a valued Platinum guest, you're entitled to a small glass of our rather nasty house wine at $6/glass, but any of the dozen drinkable wines at $8/glass are off limit" statement.

Allowing guests to choose any (standard) drink off the menu doesn't sound like a ridiculous expectation. Ok, one could make an argument regarding the cost of real champagne, but even a glass of real (mid-range) champagne would hardly cost the hotel more than $5.

i now get a soft drink or juice as the house beer and wine are generally awful so.....might as well get something I like. I get welcome drinks with Rydges and have been allowed to use say 2 vouchers for a cocktail but Novotel twin waters in Oz wouldn't let me. I didn't end up using them as I only had a hankering for good wine!

Stayed Sofitel queenstown and no welcome drink but I didn't care that night as my flight was cancelled so was just glad they had a vacancy!

I'm not really too fussed over the welcome drinks..only when I'm thirsty but there's a number of vouchers I don't use. Stayed ibis in Brisbane and didn't use these either.

Feb / March welcome drink experience - South Australia and Vietnam

As a plati the past month we received:

South Australia March 2016
Playford MGallery Adelaide - 2 x $25 for cocktail bar, anything ok
Novotel Barossa - 2 x house wine, beer or soft drink

Vietnam February 2016
Sofitel Metropole Hanoi - 2 x cocktails at pool bar, the club lounge (as a platinum) is up there as the best I have experienced in my life!
MGallery Hanoi - 2 x cocktails level selection
MGallery Hoi An - 2 x cocktails level selection
Pullman Saigon - 2 x cocktails level selection - we took at the roof top bar, amazing

Moral of the story, Accor hotels in Vietnam really look after you!!

At Ibis Hong Kong Central and Sheung Wan I received two drink vouchers upon check in, redeemable at the bar, for choice of bottled beer, tea, soft drinks, or fruit juice.

I beg to differ somehow...

I fully agree with you on Pullman Saigon, their wide offer to choose for any welcome drink of our choice and ability to have it at any bar inside the hotel - also chose the rooftop bar and it is amazing ! Outstanding.

Hotel des Arts Saigon was a shame; Welcome drink only for house wine and national beer; We booked a room for two and there was an argument whether we would be entitled to one or two national beers.

We gave up; A national beer in Saigon costs 0,33 usd - we did not care to have an argument for such a low value, instead we concluded they do not deserve future business until they do their homework.

For Thailand, note that this is correct but that you cannot redeem it at the 29F Park Society root-top bar:

- Sofitel So Bangkok: in addition to the mocktail they offer every guest, a welcome drink voucher provided (soft drinks, wine, beer and a limited menu of spirits, cocktails) 2/2016

+

- Pullman G Bangkok: voucher for 2 drinks you can redeem at the lobby bar or at the roof-top bar (from 6pm) for wine, beer or cocktails.

Hong Kong, Ibis Northpoint: A voucher for one drink given at check-in.

iRobert Apr 21, 2016 4:50 am

Novotel Kuala Lumpur city center - A voucher for one drink given at check-in, only non-alcoholic.
( Outdated, smelly, warm and a poor lounge. Would definitely not recommend this hotel )

Novotel Manila - A voucher for one drink given at check in, alcoholic including cocktails.
( Nice hotel, new but away from the tourist area. Would not recommend due to the location and the terrible traffic )

Novotel Taipei Taoyuan International Airport Nothing......

Kremmen Apr 30, 2016 5:46 am

ibis Styles Krabi Ao Nang: Drink vouchers only usable for mocktails, but at least they did really good mocktails.

Pullman Kuching: Drink vouchers only usable for lame mocktail that was less appealing than juice I could buy at the local supermarket. Worthless. Threw the second one in the bin.

Mercure Welcome Melbourne: Drink vouchers can be used for any wine available by the glass. Really good!
